I didn't see a thread on this, which saddens me since this is the best new comedy that has emerged.

So far there has been ten episodes; which is your favorite?

Holy crap, this thread should not be this dead. This show is great.

My favorite episode right now is a toss-up between "The Vulture" and "Old School".

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Binged thirteen episodes of this over the weekend. I'm guessing it's pretty new, given that there was a joke about Gravity in one of the recent episodes...

Was not expecting to enjoy Andy Samberg very much in this, but I genuinely feel that this is a really good series. Holt and Jeffords are my favourite characters.

The cast is pretty damn strong. I like Terry and Santiago the best, but Boyle is getting up there (although they better drop that gross Rosa/Boyle thing).

I'm waiting to see if this is going to stick before I turn off the air raid siren.

It's been critically acclaimed and I think it's been alright in the ratings.

But yeah, definitely the new show in years to me. The cast as a whole is great. My favorite is Holt, but that's at least partially because I'm a big fan of Andre Braugher.

Just started watching this too, I was intrigued that a series in the middle of its first season run would get not one but two Golden Globes (including best series), that and the fact that I'm a big fan of Parks and Rec and both series have some of the same writers (and one of the creators also co-created Parks and Rec).

And I have to say I'm very pleasantly surprised. The overall feeling is familiar (work-com in the same wheelhouse as Parks and Rec but in a police precinct this time, and with the same kind of very positive characters which go against the jerk comedy protagonists sitcoms usually enforce) but it's still extremely funny, well written and, I feel, quite positive. Even though the main character is a white guy (that Andy Samberg plays with a competent jock-like attitude and pulls it off well), the ensemble cast is by far one of the most diverse I've seen in a while, and almost everyone gets a chance to shine. To top it off, there are really standout performances from Andre Braugher (always excellent and his performance here very much is), Chelsea Peretti (whose off-beat Gina is absolutely laugh-out-loud funny and hits every right note) and Terry Crews (who I've always thought of as a great comedy performer and is perfectly cast here as the neurotic but extremely competent and hard-working sergeant).

So! While we're waiting for the new episode to air in about an hour and a half, what'd everyone think of the season premiere?

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

It was pretty good, though held back a bit by the fact that it clearly felt like it needed to introduce people and the setting again. For some reason the Terry-bomb had me laughing way too hard considering the length of the shot. Not sure if I'm liking the Boyle-Gina thing but I have confidence that the writers can wring out something fun out of it.

Prediction: Holt somehow got to Fingers before Peralta did and had his watch-theft arranged to teach him a lesson.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

How is this thread so dead? I'm just now getting into this show, in the middle of season 1, and it is HILARIOUS.

I love this show so damn much. It's cool to see that, even though the characters are incompetent, they usually go out of their way to help each other. The captain is an amazing Straight Man.

Full Boyle. I know that feeling. I know that feeling really well. It's ridiculous. He got lucky. I think. We'll see.

Why is this thread always so dead?

Against all odds, I'm finding Jake and Amy have terrific chemistry as a couple.

[up][up] Actually, everyone is surprisingly competent. On the rare occasion we actually see them solving crimes, they're great at it. Or remember the training game of them versus the FBI?

[up] That is my favorite thing on the show. They have these decent action sequences interspersed with this terrific comedy that really makes the show go from above-average to great.

[up][up][up] They REALLY do, way better than as a crappy willthey/won'tthey that would last for all eternity. Two seasons is how long a willthey/won'tthey should last, that's just me.

Anyone catch the latest ep? I never thought someone describing a dog humping could make me feel actually sad, but holy shit did Boyle do it. He loved that dog, accepted its grossness, and you FEEL the mournfulness.

Also Holt and Jake have the Mumps together, and its REALLY funny.

And yeah, why IS this thread so dead?

Well, this show is so excellent that there isn't much to discuss besides listing funny moments.

Man...that's a very good point! The most this season has for an over-arching plot is Terry's Lieutenant's exam, and even then that's nothig really to mull over. So yeah, if we're all okay with just posting once a week what we feel are the funniest moments, I'm cool with it.

I get that the Swedes were meant to be an Always Someone Better foil for Rosa and Jane, but, really, their behaviour was completely off-base in Swedish terms. They were walking, talking violations of both the Law of Jane (which, among other things, means you can't be too competent in front of other people lest you make them feel bad) and the imperative to be as independent as possible, and to draw a very strict boundary between personal and professional. Holding hands is, of course, right out.

They mostly were Rule of Funny, just like Jake, despite being highly competent, would never remain a cop more than a few days in real life before being fired. I don't think they were meant to be taken seriously.

Nothing unathat series is meant to be taken seriously. The whole cast would have been fired or killed a long time ago.

Speaking of which, it's hilarious to see Holt loosen up and reveal more and more of his Petty, arrogant side. The situation defusing by dancing joke is a step up from last season's deleting of photos of hoola hooping joke.
