"Doctor Who means never having to say you're kidding." - BocajNo problem, friend!
To try and have a discussion that's semi-related here, you guys remember how Tomm Moore said he wanted to do something new with Aisling in the future?
How would you guys feel if he did a comic book miniseries that touched upon certain aspects of Aisling's life including events that happened before, during (like a Synchronous Episodes thing, sort of. We saw what Brendan was doing throughout the movie, but what was Aisling doing during those times we were with him?) and after the events of The Secret of Kells (after Brendan left Kells and after he came back as an adult)? And then, it'd show how Aisling endured important world events like the two World Wars, and even see how the events of Song of the Sea affect her (that is, if SOTS turns out to take place centuries after The Secret of Kells). And it can fill whatever plot holes SOTS left out or even expand on some things that SOTS establishes.
Would anyone object if I wanted IDW Publishing to publish it?

Hey, if there was an Aisling spin-off story released as a comic book, I would read it.
I read on Facebook that Song of the Sea's North American premier is happening today, at the Egyptian in LA! Now I shall stalk the Facebook page for news of a northern California release date.
I prefer someone with a mystery, a backstory you can ponder.

My angry rant blog! There is an Aisling backstory comic, it's a pack-in with the Blu-Ray release of the film. Also has how Brendan came to live with his Uncle.
Oh, that figures. I never buy Blu-Ray packs.
Ok, then I guess this new hypothetical comic could leaf through that backstory a la All-Star Superman (if anyone read that).
Meanwhile, Tomm recaps his time in Los Angeles and how he met up with one of Pixar's founding fathers and the God of Anime himself.

Haha, that was quite a selfie. Interesting that the whole film only cost, what did he guess, 5 million to make?

Hmmm. One can tell what's gonna happen in a movie by looking at the listing in its soundtrack, right?
"I Hate You" sounds like it might be the part where Ben gives Conor "The Reason You Suck" Speech or the part where Ben gives Saoirse the I Wished You Were Dead speech. Either way, chances are it's not gonna be pretty when that song plays.
Also, another review!

It was perfect. The story was told in a mostly indirect, vague method. AND I LOVE THAT. I also love Celtic mythology used well.
My angry rant blog!I would dearly like to know why it's not showing within several hundred miles of me. We live in a cruel world.
i. hear. a. sound. You either live close to Manhattan, or you live in a dump. Cruel world, yes.
My angry rant blog!I can't help but think of this song when looking at this (gorgeous) movie.
There are lots of cities around the US with planned release dates, and weirdly, neither San Francisco nor Berkeley is among them yet. Usually those are the two cities I can rely on to book the G Kids films, even when the cinemas closer to home don't bother.
So it seems Tropers living in New York are managing to watch the movie and loving it.
Good for them!
I'm not an admin or anything, but I just want to politely remind any Tropers who saw the movie and want to add to the movie's trope page to please be courteous and remember to put in spoiler-tags as necessary.
No one likes to be spoiled!
Double posting because important.
So I've decided to edit the summary in the tropes page to better reflect what we've seen and know thus far.
Here's the original:
And here's the new summary:
Refusing to be without Cú, Ben plots to escape the city on a Halloween night and get back to the lighthouse with Saoirse following. However, the night before the moving showed a revelation. Quiet little Saoirse is in fact a selkie (a mythological humanoid who is capable of shapeshifting into a seal when making contact with a large body of water). So now, brother and sister must work together, not just to get back home, but also to rescue a dying world filled with beings that Ben knows about only from his mother's stories. But he needs to overcome his darkest fears and she needs to find her voice (metaphorically and literally speaking).
Thoughts?

Gah - here's something I wanted to post a bit earlier, but the re-design of the site meant I got logged out, and it's taken me until now to remember what my password was so I could get back in again. ^_^;
We've got a two-minute clip now, of the scene where Ben visits the Owl Witch:

Oh yeah. I saw that clip a while back. Really gives you the chills, don't it?
Now, to ask a serious question to anyone who saw this movie:
Can you guys picture Saoirse being friends with Greg?
EDIT: By the way, anyone seen this or even this?

Nice fanart!
Another video ended up in my Facebook feed today:
Ahhhhh, the feels are strong with that music video.
Anyway, I should probably watch this movie before saying anything like what I'm about to say now, but I feel like I gotta let it out.
Some time ago, I saw Labyrinth on Netflix for the first time and right off the bat, I noticed some parallels between that movie and this one, namely:
- At first, the protagonist harbors a grudge for his/her younger sibling. (Ben with Saoirse in SOTS, and Sarah with Toby in Labyrinth)
- The antagonist is the commander/ruler of a species. (SOTS has Macha the Owl Witch. Labyrinth has Jareth the Goblin King)
- The protagonist has an Olde English Sheepdog for a pet. (Cú in SOTS, and the dog in Labyrinth)
To anyone who's seen both films, can it be safe to say that Song of the Sea is (in a way) The Secret of Kells meets Labyrinth ?

Hmm, I've seen Labyrinth, but I'll have to wait until at least the 30th (that's when the film is—allegedly—coming to San Francisco) to elaborate on any connections between the two movies. And most of my memories of Labyrinth involve the phrase "dance magic dance".
Have now seen Song of the Sea and it took me quite a while to realize the adult characters are doubled as this story is also a metaphor about dealing with the pain of losing a loved one.
I think my chance to see the film is coming on the 30th, and the theater that's showing it is only one town over! This is a relief; trips to San Francisco are fun, but they're pretty much a whole-day commitment.
So the Oscars are coming pretty soon. Anyone excited?
Cool trailer!
Also, nice 3D glasses.
