I'd say Starlight is on the level of importance of Spike or the CMC. It makes sense to have a mane characters section that includes more than just the mane 6.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI agree with storyeller.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position., Which of options 2, 3, or 4 do you prefer? Or something else entirely?

To keep the whole "Mane Six" thing strictly six, I'd go with 3.

Thank you. I will have a lot of credit to give when I eventually put it out.
I have ideas but making them coherent is hard.
I never follow EQ, and never read the comics. Therefore I think it's a bit weird taht you'd need to follow ALL the side projects in this franchise in order to enjoy this season. I really hope they never do it again.
What are you talking about? Nobody has said anything like that.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?In regards to the main characters reorganization, I'd go with #3 as well.
I've read the comics and watched the episodes, and I really don't think either is necessary to enjoy the other. The episodes the legendary ponies appeared in don't lose anything, in regards to their internal stories, from one not reading the comics beforehand. It adds a bit, absolutely, but it's not necessary in order to enjoy them.
Admittedly there are a few episodes of this season I haven't seen yet, but I'm pretty sure I'm enjoying the heck out of it even though I'm not following anything besides the show itself. So I'm not really seeing where that statement is coming from.
This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...The comics aren't necessary but I would say it detracts a bit from the experience if you haven't read them. Mainly because I haven't read them, and all of Campfire Tales plus a decent chunk of Daring Done being dedicated to fleshing out these characters who have never been relevant to the show and don't ultimately contribute anything to the characters I actually do care about or even interact with them in any way has been off-putting.
There was an unmistakable tie-in quality to Campfire Tales, and the episode was much weaker for it. Vignette episodes are bad enough, but a vignette episode about characters who don't matter because they have never nor will they ever directly influence the established characters of the series is basically 20 minutes of wasted screentime.
If you like the expanded universe, cool. Good on you. Not going to fault you that. But there's a reason no Star Wars movie has ever had its characters drop what they're doing to go spend half a movie talking about how cool that one novel was where that guy who accosted Luke in the tavern that one time saved the universe from invading alien hordes. There's better things for the show to be doing than wanking off about the comics.
Like having Pinkie and Rainbow Dash hang out. Which was awesome and did a better job of redeeming its episode than the camping trip framing device from Campfire Tales.
It depresses me that a Daring Do episode, which I dislike, featuring a few minutes of wanking off about how cool the EU is, which I hate, is a serious contender for one of the best episodes in the season purely because it remembered that the main cast are supposed to like being around each other.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I thought it was kind of random, but the legends were interesting. As long as they don't do it all the time, I'm fine with them.
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayOh shit, wait, those two episodes I missed...
Fuck.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?I thought Campire Tales was great. I like the worldbuilding details and the stories were interesting.
Especially Rarity's. That was great.
Fanfiction I hate.Ironically my biggest complaint about the legends is that they're legends. I'd like to see them be real and meet the Mane 6. You could get some pretty good adventure episodes out of each of them.
This song needs more love.@Tobias: I dunno, comparing it to something like Star Wars isn't that great of an analogy since the movies have a clear ongoing plot, while the show, while leaning more on continuity than it used to, is still primarily episodic in nature. The fact that the legends haven't actually occurred doesn't mean that they're totally irrelevant. It's just an expansion of pony culture and history to learn what kind of history they have.
As for Daring Done, my main questions revolve around how the town they visited is apparently part of Equestria.
Reaction Image RepositoryI think we could make sense of it by saying that the name "Equestria" is both a country and a continent name, in the same way that "America" is. So Celestia is princess of the United Confederation of Equestria (shortened to just "Equestria" in most contexts) which is located on the continent of North Equestria. And the city Somnambula is located on the continent of South Equestria.
That is an incredibly chipper avatar.
Fanfiction I hate.HEADCANON ACCEPTED
Headcanon: Caballeron and his henchponies are okay with murdering people but they're very squeamish so they set up things to do it indirectly.
Fanfiction I hate.@Meta: Makes sense to me. I mean, honestly, it makes more sense for "Equestria" to just be a catch-all name for anywhere ponies are the dominant species.
Reaction Image RepositoryBy the way, has anyone thought more about the next round robin?
Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's Play
I thought it was "Mane Seven" now.
I like to keep my audience riveted.
