Changed w/o discussion: All Natural Gem Polish

It's actually risking an edit war, which is why I've left the Minecraft image on the page.

Original MLP image.◊ New Minecraft image.◊

The reasons given for the change to the Minecraft image are "we should use an image from something with a small(er) hatebase" and "I like the Minecraft one".

However, the MLP one is better because it shows the gems coming right out of the ground, rather than being pre-arranged in a fancy room where it doesn't look very natural. It's also a better quality image.

The MLP is the better of those two. But could we consider one of these two...

I'd also like to mention that Image Source, as you'd expect, wasn't updated, so it's still under MLP. Definitely agree MLP one is better. Although Snow White ones are good too. 2.2 is clearer than 2.1, although MLP is the clearest. They look like Rupees. Posting directly for those who don't feel like clicking the links.

I really like 3.1. It clearly shows breaking it out of the rock already polished. The MLP one is good, but the first I thought was that someone had dropped them there.

Agreed. Also the MLP image looks like the polish is from the magic glow... thing.

I do not care for the current. With 2, image quality is an issue.

I also like 3.1.

I prefer 2.1 and 2.2 (in that order).

3.1 > 3.2 > 1.1 >> current.

Quality is an issue with 2.1/2.2.

Now, my reasoning for using something with a smaller hatebase was to reduce controversy. Unless everyone here but me on TV Tropes watches MLP, there has to be a decent volume of those who hate the show. I am certain that Minecraft has a much smaller hatebase, as I know that from browsing a lot of forums.

So I vote for the Minecraft one, which is the current one. My second vote is for the Snow White and the Seven Dwarves one. I bet I could find a better image to replace the Minecraft one; I have an account on it.

Ok, this is getting confusing. Let's put up a crowner.

Whether people hate the source of the image shouldn't figure into our consideration of it being a good image. The proposed Minecraft image isn't as good as the MLP one which isn't as good as the Snow White images.

@10 If an image can properly demonstrating a trope, then it's a good image, regardless of where it's from. Saying a show is hated is not a good reason to change a good image without discussion, especially if the replacement image is inferior. As far as I can tell, there wasn't any controversy over the image until the change. That said, it's nice to have a diverse range of sources for images, and admittedly, MLP is the source of many images on this wiki. If you had a problem with that, you should have gone to Image Pickin' in the first place to make your suggestion.

There are plenty of page images from works that have a significant Hatedom, which I will not name, so it is not a valid reason to change an image.

IMHO, it should be a reason. This discussion keeps backing up my hypothesis in my first post on this topic. You all watch MLP except for me.

I'm not sure whether MLP is better or the Snow White images. I'll upload the images in 3 for comparison. I don't think we need more suggestions. Either of these are fine.

I will not further discuss the switch that was made. It no longer matters at this point.

Just based on the examples that are already uploaded, I'd say the Snow White pics have the edge, as the MLP pic looks like she's using her horn to light up the gems.

Since I suppose nobody favors the Minecraft one, I think we should go with the first Snow White image.

I think that after a few more votes, we could go with the first Snow White pic.
