Erica has a strong attachment to this role. It put her through a struggle to go beyond what she thought she was capable of as an actor. Same with Carrie Keranen, who at the beginning thought she didn't get into the show.
KLK has a genuinely fantastic dub and Erica Mendez killed it. It is very, very fun to watch it back to back with Little Witch Academia to see Mendez's utterly exceptional range.

It's a shame that Mendez doesn't go for more tomboy roles. I thought she would make a perfect Mordred, but she ended up voicing Jack instead.
She still does boy roles, but less tomboy roles these days.

The KLK dub is great. I've been rewatching it as I rewatch the show as a whole and I love it. The dub performances from the actresses of Ryuko, Satsuki, Nui and Ragyo in particular are my favorites.

Ryuko was definitely Erica's breakout role, which makes it all the more weirder she's not type-casted as more tomboys.
I suppose she doesn't want to be type-casted and should be able to do as many roles as she can, but I don't think she's ever done another tomboy since Ryuko.

She was Uranus in the Viz Sailor Moon dub, which I believe is her only other tomboy role (haven't seen much of Konosuba, so I don't know if Megumin qualifies as such).

Megumin's gimmick is that she acts like a chuuni but is fairly normal otherwise. She also is good at one thing and is completely useless after doing said thing.

Hey, do y'all think Ryuko ever had to use the bathroom while wearing Senketsu? How awkward was that? Imagine trying to poop whilst ensconced in your buddy. Do they agree to ignore each other during the proceedings, or are they close enough that it isn't embarrassing? Or maybe Senketsu doesn't think human bodily functions are gross because he isn't human himself.
