Every oddball change they made in the series was "just" to do something weird - that was the point of the series. It was Better than a Bare Bulb, attributed to Ancient Greece.

Even with Blue Sky Studios shut down, they still want to get Nimona out there. The article also reveals how Chloe Grace Moretz and Riz Ahmed would've played two of the lead characters.

Oh yes, Riz Ahmed as Ballister Blackheart would've been delightful. grin

Netflix might be for normies, but compared to Disney, their relationship with LGBTQ+ content practically approaches warp speed.

Half-joking aside, it's easy enough to deduce Chloe Grace Moretz is Nimona herself. I wonder who'd be Goldenloin...

I was watching Hercules and noticed one of Phil's failed proteges is Odysseus. Does that mean he never made it home to his family in this world?
Oddyseus took forever to get home so Phil probably thought he got lost.

I honestly love the series more than the film because it explored a lot of the Greek stuff.

The series gave thought to an Adaptation Relationship Overhaul and having her as Demeter and Hades' daughter with the parents locked in a custody battle, but decided it was too serious so she remained a background character (she's the goddess with pink skin and pink flower headdress next to Demeter and Helios).

I say I am glad they abandoned that because I am a big Hades x Persephone shipper. Seriously, I prefer them being this Underworld power couple.

Since Disney Hades was given adaptational villainy an evil Persephone could be really fun to see XD They'd be a power snarky couple for sure!

[up]Especially if the fact that she's evil is a big twist in her debut episode where it looks like it's a kidnapping, but she went willingly. Heck you could even do a fun twist where Herc tricks her into eating half a pomegranate from Demeter that forces her to return to Olympus for half the year.

One of the Disney Magic Kingdoms quests referenced the abduction myth. Hades kidnapped Persephone to get Demeter to name him, in his words, "Hades: Lord of the Underworld AND Tortilla Chips." XD

I could see her being Affably Evil and just be someone who plans evil stuff, but also has a nice side. On the other hand, in actual mythology Persephone was considered The Dreaded. People actually were more afraid of her than her own husband.

In Ancient Greece people were so scared of Hades that they refused to say his name for fear of attracting his attention and averted their eyes when making sacrifices to him. He only has a few depictions in art and statues because of this too, and they gave him tons of epithets and euphemisms to avoid saying his name directly.

Persephone was also feared, particularly by Odysseus, who was more scared of her than her husband despite her being pretty nice to him.

She did turn a nymph that tried to seduce Hades into a mint plant, and then stepped on her.

Basically Hades and Persephone are terrifying due to the fear of death to Greeks, but if you don’t fuck with them, they won’t eff with you. Which is certainly more than can be said for most of the Greek Pantheon.

It's odd she's not mentioned much in Hercules-related media, considering the mini-operetta version of the story Disney produced in 1934... you'd think there'd be precedent.

Helps that all he has to do is wait.

....Since Hercules is mortal alongside Meg they're gonna die of old age eventually and presumably end up in Hades' Underworld. D: I sure hope Elysium exists in the movie's universe! And/or Asphodel.

It's mentioned on the Everybody Hates Hades page that the reasons the ancient Greeks feared Hades are the same ones that modern people like him.

He was seen as cold-hearted, uncompromising and merciless but to modern readers he comes off as level-headed, unbiased and professional, especially when compared to the other gods.

Values Dissonance in perspective. Also mythlogy Hades seems to be the not evil, but misunderstood type.

A thought just came to my mind.

I don't get Disney Plus, but I know it has Melody Time. So any of you who has it - do they censor out Pecos Bill's smoking? Do they keep in the bit with the Indians?

This is what Wikipedia tells me:

[In the American VHS and DVD release,] all scenes of smoking were digitally removed in the Pecos Bill segment. This is not the case in the UK Region 2 DVD where it is unaltered. On Disney+, the smoking scenes were left intact for the first time in 80 years.

No mention about the Native people.

Good on them. It never felt right to me that Pecos rolling a smoke as he ropes a cyclone had to be cut, but the scene with him "giving them redskins such a shake up" was perfectly fine.
