No opinion on the top ones.

The middle ones are enough to be listed as Replacement Scrappy.

That some fans disliked Duchovny enough to dislike his character isn't what a Scrappy is, and it's complaining about a Real Life actor. Cut.

I think the last one can be cut. Not sure about the others.

Does anyone think that Bloo from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends should be cut? To me, Bloo is more of a Base Breaker than a Scrappy.

[up] I haven't seen too much hate for Bloo (besides, I even used to be a HUGE Bloo fanatic when I was a young one, I still have my Bloo plushie BTW), so commence with the cutting.

[up] I agree. I personally don't like Bloo because I think he's an annoying jerkass, but he has his fans. He's a Base Breaker, while Bendy, Dutchess, and Goofball remain as scrappies.

Went through some YMMV pages. On the one for Soul Eater. Do Blackstar, Maka really count as scrappies. Blackstar I can understand, I have seen a lot of bile thrown his way and he's listed as a base breaker. But I have yet to see anyone in the Soul Eater fandom downright hate Maka. Seems like that entry is shoehorned, since it says she's considered the scrappy to some fans which isn't the scrappy if she's hated by only some.

I went ahead and got rid of it. It was a zero context example anyway.

This is just my two cents, but I didn't have a problem with Pan and Giru/Gill/Gear from Dragon Ball GT. I thought both of them were pretty cute, and Giru did contribute to the plot. I just wish that Pan could Take a Level in Badass. sad Then again, I'm sure a lot of think GT is So Bad, It's Horrible. sad

Oh, yeah, and I feel compelled to bring up Fist Of The North Star and Rin/Lin/Lynn. Now, I liked Rin back when she was a kid. Sure, she got into trouble, but she was a kid, and it's hard to do much as a kid. But as an adult...she really committed some terrible blunders, especially in the Asura/Shura arc. She spent a good portion of the time sitting there and being a useless plot device as opposed to a character. It never occurred to her to try to run for it. In fact, she sat there screaming "Ken~!" over and over. It was sad and heartbreaking...the first 10 times I heard it. Then I pretty much wished that she would just shut up. The worst part was when she did get rescued and was told to leave the island, and what does she do? She decides to chase after Ken again and even states that this is the only selfish thing she has ever done in her life! Gee, sister, you picked the worst possible time to be selfish, didn't you?

Now, she did do one thing right, and that was to ward off rapist-wannabe Kaiou by threatening to kill herself if he got any closer. And that part at the end, where she got hit in a pressure point on her back and she would fall in love with the first man she saw. Normally, I would be offended by the idea that Ken and Bat, being men, get to decide Rin's future for her because she's a woman. But to be honest, I was so disgusted with Rin being so Too Dumb to Live that I felt that it was karma and a suitable punishment for her that Kenshirou basically rejected her and dumped her in Bat's arms instead. evil grin[lol]

[up] Never Saw Fist Of The North Star, I have only heard either people calling it misogynistic piece of trash or an anime classic. Are those characters scrappies?

TiggersAreGreat Since: Mar, 2011

[up] I would say Fist Of The North Star succeeds in being both. It does contains moments of awesomeness and coolness. However, given that it's a Japanese work that started way back in 1983, you can bet that it's loaded to the brim with Values Dissonance on multiple counts. What also didn't help was that the story was supposed to end after Raou's defeat, but success demanded that the story be continued...which might explain a number of problems that came up there.

The Scrappy page doesn't list any characters from FOTNS. Then again, a Scrappy has to have a massive Hatedom to qualify as one, and it's only me who's stating my opinion. I don't know if a massive Hatedom even exists for FOTNS.

OK, about The X-Files. I think only Diana Fowley counts. I'll leave an editor's note at the page that if anyone wants to include other characters, they should bring them here and discuss it. Can I add Fowley to TheScrappy.Live Action TV?

[down] See my first post about the show here. She's a complete and utter bitch, and fans hate her like the plague. I can post here samples from my favourite review pages and some comments from The X-Files discussions.

I know it's difficult to judge and decide whether a character is The Scrappy or not when you're not a part of the fandom. That's basically why I only posted suggestions... I would like to help with this clean-up more, but I think I judge only works I'm familiar with.

EDIT: I was Googling Diana Fowley and unsurprisingly, I find that there are some balanced opinions (people don't despise her entirely, some say she's a fairly well-written character, some fans hate the fact that she's so hated, some don't love her but don't really hate her either...). But I'd say it's 90% of hatred.

If nobody objects, I'll write up Diana Fowley and post it both at TheScrappy.Live Action TV and YMMV.The X Files.

I found one entry at YMMV.Six Feet Under. I was really a lot into this show, but I don't know much what the fandom thinks. However, I find this entry rather accurate. If you approve, I'd like to cross-wick it.

Guys, I think we have a problem with the Simpsons entries on the western animation page. There are a lot of characters listed as Scrappies, but on the YMMV page of the show, they are all listed as Base Breakers...shoehorning, anyone??

[up] Hmm, hard to say. One-shot Roy and Poochie are in-universe Scrappies, so they can stay. I think Lisa got hatred a lot, though I personally enjoyed her stories, and also I have never been active in the Simpsons fandom, so I wouldn't know. Base Breakers sound likely, but it's possible that some of them have massive hatedom.

It is possible for a Base Breaker to have a massive hatedom, but its balanced out by its massive fandom. [lol]

I would say that The Scrappy is supposed to be a character that has a massive hatedom but with very few fans. If the hatedom is bigger than a character's fandom then looks like we have a scrappy.

I know that Lisa receives a lot of hatred, but I'm not familiar with the simpsons fandom at large. However if the scrappy page is different from the YMMV page (which happens a lot with audience reactions just look at Creator's Pet), maybe it is a case of shoehorning? People do tend to put a character with any hatedom(even if its very small) on that page.

I would agree that Lisa is a base breaker rather than a scrappy. Problem with The Simpsons though is that the series has run for so long most of the main characters have been portrayed differently at different times. So you may have the season 4-5 version of a character popular with a large fandom but the Season 10-11 version mort widely disliked.

[up][up],[up] I think this should require more research, because normally, I don't watch the simpsons.

I've heard the most hate about Lisa, but often I also hear about how Homer is even more of a moron than he should be, and that the show has jumped the shark in the same breath, so it's hard to tell from just that.

Uh... Is Ray the firefly really considered The Scrappy? I haven't seen any sizeable proof anywhere, so I cut it. Hope I haven't jumped the gun. I didn't notice this thread until after cutting it. If it is indeed the case, it can always be added back in.

To me, I think this trope shouldn't have any examples either like Base Breaker, because it just invites character bashing, really.

Misskitten Luminescent Blush Since: Jul, 2012
#174: Apr 30th 2013 at 7:55:22 AM

Base Breaker got all its examples removed(but it can still be listed on the YMMV pages) because it was being misused a lot, and it was also difficult to prove if a character was even a basebreaker causing a whole lot of chaos. I don't see The Scrappy getting the same treatment unless things get out of hand.

MsCC93 Since: May, 2012
#175: Apr 30th 2013 at 8:34:51 AM

[up] That's true.. however, I think it should still go away because it's getting hard to clean up because tropers keep on adding back examples and the scrappy turned from "Characters the majority of the fandom hates" to "Characters I personally hate."
