I would consider constantly referring to Rose as "Mom" counts as gendered language.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing. Here's a video that Awestruck Vox from The Roundtable put out. It's a long video (57 minutes), but he talks about the common criticisms for the show (both good and bad).
I might just be kinda salty, but I'm honestly tempted to make a list of "evil villains who deserved redemption more than the diamonds."
"I am the lord of Purity, who tolerates no deviation." My first online storyThey would've been redeemed if they were in SU :P
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢That is definitely true. But complaining that the Diamond's "deserved" a worse fate ignores that like... There was no indication that a more "traditional" narrative would have actually solved the conflict of Steven Universe. We already showed that shattering one of them causes more harm than good. Yeah the other Gems can't do the death wave with, but they're still a massive army of superbeings with every reason to screw over the Earth. Bubbling brings with it similar problems, namely, that every Gem would swarm the planet until the Diamonds were released again.
I compare it to the Japanese emperor after WW 2. He did terrible things, but there was no surrender from Japan without ensuring his safety. And unlike the Emperor, the Diamonds had the ability and willingness to learn to undo a lot of the damage they did.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.I was kinda bothered that there were not more gems that wanted the Diamonds dead or something. Not all Japanese/Germans liked Emperor Hirohito/Hitler and many wanted them dead through more extremist movements.
I felt that the writers kinda recycled the "hates/resents the CG/Rose antagonists" all too often.
"Bingo! If two species hate each other, they will wipe each other out on their own."Basically every known character who resisted Homeworld was closely guided by Steven or Rose. And most Off Colors seemed to only have enough self-esteem to put their self-preservation above Homeworld's whims. I don't think Bismuth's vengeful nature was super-anomalous among the Crystal Gems as a whole, just that in Era 3 almost none of them would put Revenge Before Reason that hard—besides being counterproductive, every single gem knows the Diamonds are all still really, really strong.
I'm sure plenty of them have lingering resentment, they just hold their tongue and focus on other things in other places. Hell, Future makes a point that Steven subconsciously kind of hates White Diamond, and the Diamonds' absence from the last episode suggest they're all OK them staying apart for the foreseeable future.
I never minded the diamond redemption. Its Steven I cant forgive. If you remove future from the equation Steven Universe would be my fave show of the decade but it exist so I hate it.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.Future is decidedly a separate series rather than a Season 6, so you can choose to ignore it.
May I ask why you can't forgive Steven?

Cupcakes are coming, Darling!!What I find a little uncomfortable about Future is that Steven, the quintessential All-Loving Hero, becomes an angry, angsty teenager. Which is not an unrealistic development, but it makes the entire show Harsher in Hindsight.

Its pretty easy to become that when you were constantly fixing adults problems and nearly died several times.
I personally like the recontextualization of future to a degree. It felt like it showed just how potentially damaging The Chosen One can be on young kid growing even if he does have the best personality for it.

IMO, that aspect was great. It shows the often overlooked consequences of what being a Kid Hero would usually end in.
It also recontextualizes the whole show and lets us see how bad things got and how badly Steven was affected by all that happened in his life
"Bingo! If two species hate each other, they will wipe each other out on their own."I am all about everything Future did with Steven, and I wish more kids shows could take risks and go to that place.
Future is my favorite season of the show. I love Steven Universe, but Future went to such a daring place and did it so well that I can't help but love it. Steven Universe is great, but Future addressed some things about the genre that I've very rarely seen any other series talk about.
The closest comparison I can make to Future in terms of making me think about things in a way I never have before is the ending of Mob Psycho 100 season 1, and that's HIGH praise.
I honestly don't think that Future recontextualizes the original all that much. SU has always been about characters working through their trauma.
Many of the events that Steven experienced as a kid were portrayed as pretty traumatic at the time. Seriously, rewatch Steven the Sword Fighter, or So Many Birthdays, or Space Race. Those episodes didn't play the severity of those situations for laughs. The series just sprinkled a lot more comedy in its earlier seasons, but got progressively more serious as time went on. There were multiple episodes where Steven is shown to have unresolved anger at best and downright PTSD at worst like in Mindful Education or Storm in the Room.
I don't really know where SUF ranks in terms of the seasons for me. Seasons 3 and 5 are still peak SU for me, but there's a lot to love in Future. I honestly prefer Teen Steven to Kid Steven and his character development is phenomenal. Also, Fragments is one of the absolute best episodes in the show. Still, the pacing is kind of off and honestly it would have benefitted from more episodes.

Unleash the Light is coming to Steam and consoles
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢Nice, I may actually play it now.
FINALLY!
Let's hope its a decent port thats better tested then the last one
New theme music also a boxThis came out.
My issue with Future is it felt so rushed. As in too rushed to properly explore what it wanted to explore. Imo some of the episodes should have been cut and their time repurposed to help the narrative's flow.
I also really hate how it ended because it contradicts itself about how serious mental health issues are. And I hate how Out of Character Spinel was. I did really like the episode with Pink Pearl though, and I liked how Steven and Jasper bonded.

Oissu!contradicts itself how?
New theme music also a boxThe show starts by saying mental illness is serious, you can't just expect it to go away by giving someone a pep talk or a Cooldown Hug... And the Steven thinks he's a monster subplot ends by giving him a pep talk and a Cooldown Hug.
(Yes, we are told that Steven is going to a therapist in a quick throwaway line, but that's nowhere near as convincing as getting to, you know, actually see Steven recovering from his trauma after the show spends such a long time establishing said trauma and its effects on Steven.)

Oissu!
It's been a while since I saw the epidode but I think either Amethyst or Pearl coined the term "giant woman". Why they used a gendered term for their fusion is odd - but perhaps it's just Early-Installment Weirdness.
