Join Us Saturday, October 12th @ ~8:00PM (US/EDT) Here: http://cytu.be/r/TroperCoven

For the uninitiated... A contingent of tropers (mostly from across America) holds regular get-togethers over the Interwebs on this site called Synchtube which lets individuals, such as ourselves, open and join in text-based chatrooms within typical web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, et. al.) that allow the chat participants to view YouTube videos in synchronization with everyone else present (without even needing to set up an account)... and we've decided to use said chatrooms to play cheeseball webvideos and feature-length movies found in the public domain which stretch all the way from letters B to Z, which everyone subsequently riffs on a la MST3K.

For over EIGHT years, everybody who gets involved mostly finds good enjoymentnote  in calling out tropes that are recognized in the videos and stories and coming up with jokes to fling back at whatever's happening on the screen, many of which turn into various in-jokes and running gags (a Coven Glossary is kept and maintained for everyone's help and convenience HERE) to repeat in the chat.

We're always looking for new ways to better coordinate and expand our activities and are more than happy to welcome newcomers interested in joining our gatherings.

Somewhat split vote. One 1, one 3, four 2s.

Gotta love those famous last words. "Crime... doesn't... pay... :((((("

Tonight, we revisit one of the dumbest remakes of all time, released in one of the dumbest years of all time: 2002's Rollerball, with Chris Klein, Jean Reno, LL Cool J... and Rebecca Romijn attempting to pass off a stereotypical Eastern European/"Russian" accent for a "Dutch" character (and she chose her own character's foreign nationality)...

Alright, we're up and running with the return of America's Funniest Home Videos, brought to us by Dave Coulier and Arleen Sorkin.

And then at the top of the coming hour, we rerun the dumbed-down 2002 remake of Rollerball.

(Awww shit... It just dawned on me that I should've made room for an old, random ass episode of WSL Roller Jam for pre-show. Man, that would've been soooo appropriate)

Want to run a couple of Italian movies tonight and tomorrow just for the hell of it.

It's giallo. We all know the drill. This one's called Spasmo, from director Umberto Lenzi who we most remember for bringing us Ghosthouse ([awesome][awesome]) under a pseudonym.

Alright, we're kicking off with America's Funniest People.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we got some Italian blood & mystery fare with Spasmo...

More Italian gore on the menu for tonight.

Here, a killer dressed in red is targeting American tourists and gouging out there eyeballs in the appropriately titled film Eyeball...

Tonight, it's Eyeball, which involves eyeballs and proper removal procedures relating to them.

Before that, more Bugs and Daffy.

Bonsai, you're gonna have to fill us in because (1) I don't have the faintest idea what this is, myself, and (2) I don't have enough time right now to figure that out: Song of the Sea...

It's Irish and abstract looking. The dad is absolutely enormous compared to his tiny kids.

I have a crazy idea for a "movie" for tomorrow. :P It is, arguably, a movie, plus it literally calls itself one, and was intended to be one. And it's as long as one. And it has a... reputation that precedes it.

Okay, tonight it's all animation. First, more Bugs and Daffy, this time actually together for several of those cartoons.

Then, we get some abstract art from Ireland in the form of Song of the Sea. A boy and his non-verbal sister go on an adventure to... I forget. It was weird. But interesting. Check it out!

Song of the Sea got ★★★. One of them votes was a 4 - Ship's vote.

Tomorrow, meanwhile, is definitely gonna be riffable. Tomorrow's "movie" actually has entire videos of nothing but it being played with people riffing it! And numerous videos of people criticizing it. Hmm...

No, we're not passing a Nintendo "Let's Play" off as a movie. That's just plain stupid. Just find something that's actually a movie. So help me, if my late afternoon/evening work gig is cancelled due to inclement weather tomorrow, I will be finding something else to run, instead.

It's not a Let's Play, but literally every single cutscene compiled together by the game itself as a movie (with this compilation even calling itself Metroid: Other M: The Movie), and one that's infamous for how stupid the story is.

Okay, I'll find something else.

How about the 1973 horror movie Scream Bloody Murder?

We might have watched that one before, I believe. I recall it involving a kid who kills his father with a tractor and mangles his own hand in the process. Then he keeps killing as an adult... or something like that.

That’s a much better fit for us.

So yeah, my late day gig was cancelled tonight, so I'll be around for a movie.

And we may not have seen Scream Bloody Murder in the chat before, but that movie's starting premise does involve a child murdering his father with farming equipment.

Oh man, is this a special occasion!

Exactly SEVEN (7) whole years ago this evening, this very coven quickly began to take shape after the simple suggestion to start streaming YouTube videos and watch them in a group.

Now, for the next two weeks (ending with the anniversary of the date this very thread was created), we'll be revisiting some coven classics that helped cement our own identity, beginning tonight with the very first movie that helped to start it all: Phil Tucker's Robot Monster!

So happy we've made it this far together...

We've never had these two coven holidays so close together before, but customarily, the first Friday after the beginning of our anniversary season on August 8th is christened Awful Friday, in recognition of our first Friday gathering. As the story goes, we really wanted to get a lot of new people involved and to check us out and have something really exciting and promising to look forward to, only our feature presentation that night turned out to be really shitty, and so, as is customary on this night, we revisit one of the worst movies we've ever subjected ourselves to just to remind us that (1) you can never judge a movie by its trailer, and (2) terrible viewing experiences are simply bound to happen doing what we do.

This year's pick for Awful Friday is one of the very first titles we've bestowed an    X    rating. It certainly seems a lot worse in hindsight now, knowing that several of the people involved in this one would go on to have a hand in making AmeriGeddon, which we watched just last month, plus one David A.R. White who we'd see emerge as a huge power player in the world of Christian-centric media.

This is arguably the most unbearable Christian movie we've ever seen. In fact, it's so unbearable, nothing in the movie really resembles Christianity (or any other recognizable religion) to begin with.

If you've never seen it before, fucking hell does this movie suck! Strap yourselves in for The Bells of Innocence, starring Mike Norris (future director of AmeriGeddon and the son of Chuck Norris... and also wrote the screenplay for this garbage), the aforementioned David A.R. White and his fellow Christian movie veteran Carey "Peacock Joke" Scott, plus a totally boring Chuck Norris phoning shit in just for the sake of helping his own son.

Alright, I'm starting us off with more old classics: The traffic/driving PSA films "I Like Bikes, But..." and "The Talking Car." A lot of memories.

Then, at the top of the coming hour, we recognize Awful Friday with a revisit of The Bells of Innocence. God help us all.

Alright, now to get Awful Friday out of our heads tonight, we can look forward to revisiting the 1984 post-apocalypse sci-fi/fantasy adventure movie She!

It's a quest to rescue one's kidnapped sister... while battling orgiastic werewolves, a psychic communist, a mad scientist, a tutu-wearing giant, and more along the way!
