Wilbyr noted in a prior Image Pickin' Thread that Jump Scare is a little too close to Screamer Prank. As he put it,

"Jump Scares can be caused by anything, not just a loud noise or image on the screen. It's all about the buildup of tension, the seeming release, and then the out-of-the-blue element that causes the scare."

It's not so much that it's an exact duplicate so much as it is that the description of Jump Scare is too closely modeled on Screamer Prank, when the latter's actually a specific type of the former.

The Jump Scare description could be edited a little. (edit: I changed the opening paragraph. it could be better)

The think the lack of examples are a bigger problem. Just a list of jump scares would be boring, but we could still list parodies, subversions, works that have constant jump-scares through-out, examples that are notable for whatever reason.

[up] So it'd be like Knockback or Hostage Situation... a "No straight examples" article.

I should YKTTW an index about that (when we get this stuff done)!

The edits are an improvement. The only quibble I have now description-wise is that it doesn't necessarily have to be something that pops out on the screen, as anything will trigger a Jump Scare as long as it happens suddenly and isn't necessarily connected to what was causing the tension-building in the first place.

It's the weekend, mate. The forums are empty and abandoned during Saturday/Sunday.

I really think that Screamer Prank seems to be The Same But More Specific to Jump Scare, and we really didn't need that big list of internet screamers anyhow.

Also, Screamer Prank seems to have the examples but:

So I'm inclined to keeping it and have Screamer Prank redirect there.

I tweaked Jump Scare a little more...I think it's good as is, unless someone can think of something else to add. I don't mind having a separate page for Screamer Prank.
