How mad does it make you feel whenever you see leftists blaming America, Maduro's opposition, or nebulous rightwinger sabotage for Venezuela's problems and that the only reason people think it's Chavez and Maduro's fault is propaganda? I still see a ton of that from people who really should know better, but they're not the ones actually living in Venezuela, so I'd take the word of someone actually from there.

Edit:Strange topper.

People can be actively oblivious of some things if they clash with their vision of the world, it's Black-and-White Insanity at its worst.

Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.

I mean, I've read accounts from Venezuelan expats elsewhere that by many regards Hugo Chavez isn't even a good representative of leftism anyway. That he's a nonspecific populist who takes a lot of common talking points and occasionally actual policies from leftism but is just as eager to engage in blatant misogyny, transphobia, and other types of fearmongering more typical of the right wherever it's convenient, and that people who defend him for being a poor innocent fellow leftist being bullied by mean lying rightists are barking up the wrong tree.

[up][up] We are going from the Logic that Right wingers are always bad while Left wingers are good unless they get corrupted for the Right?

Socialist dictatorships always do that sort of shit. Stalin did a freaking ethnical cleaning. Pol Pot was practically A Nazi by Any Other Name (and skin tone).

Plus, Latin America can get weird with that. For example, Andean Racial Supremacism is considered Leftist.

Also, who can win in a fight of Maduro vs. Maduro?

The leftists who claim Chavez wasn't a "real" leftist are full of shit. They were quick enough to sing his praises back when Venezuela seemed successful.

The revolution can't fail, it can only be failed.

Plenty of die hard leftists place the blame on failed leftist regimes on external or internal factors and grounds connected to the right.

This becomes ridiculous to the point how most left win parties outright fail exactly because they can't deal with criticism, accept flaws or admit guilt. Surely this also opens up for right wing dipshits to jump in and say See we do everything better! Vote for us! despise being just as incompetent.

However, placing the blame in the US and Right Wing groups, regardless of them having a hand in the failure or not, has always been the to go Never My Fault excuse for the South American brand of left wing. This usually marries very well with the general Anti-American sentimentalism in South America.

However, after spending 20 years hearing the Yanks are going to invade and intervene any time....any time...any time...any time gets really trying.

For the record, they did and still do it in a soft way, for instance, movies of national origin in Peru are given the shaft whereas movies from the US are given the spotlight.

[up][up] That is kinda why seeing that the Foreign Right Wing was so bad was such a shock. I was so used to Real Life Both Sidism (sometimes the left party is better, sometimes the right one is the Last bastion of sanity).

It helps that our hardcore Leftwingers have never really managed to get into power in the USA. And frankly I think that's a good thing.

I don't want the Green Party running the USA.

It comes to me that the democrats, despite being the "left" in the USA, are more akin to the centre and that your more "conventional" left is kept out of the spotlight because of the two party system.

I bet that if the USA allowed more parties in its system, we would see more of the Both Sidism that Kazuya mentioned.

See, I don't want that happening because that would require the Green Party and their ilk to come into power in the USA. And that would not be a good thing. At all.

Now you might be asking "how could it be worse than the GOP?" I don't have an answer to that right now. But I'm sure the Green Party will be able to provide an answer if they ever do somehow get into the WH.

I added regional maps for every continent except Antarctica, including North America (though I couldn't find one that includes Northern America/North America proper as one region) and South America. They look OK?

A bit of a tangent, but I ask the usonian users of this site if they clarify something for me.

I have often heard through my family that the USA considers and teaches its students that the Amazon region belongs to the world and that it's their duty to safeguard it in case something happened. Is that really a thing?

Think it might be a miscommunication, there’s been an idea for awhile that the Amazon Rainforest (not the region, not rainforest) is a key part of the world’s ecosystem and needs to be protected so as to avoid climate change becoming even worse than it currently is.

But it’s still owned by the relevant nations and part of their sovereign territory, it’s just also something we all have a common interest in protecting from exploitation.

Considering the US tries to be (or at least, tried to be) the world police, when they speak about protecting something, it also comes across as a tacit claim on that something.

Instead of focusing on relatives that divide us, we should find the absolutes that tie us.
