Something military might be cool for people like Barkey and me. An M4 or something like that.
"Did anybody invent this stuff on purpose?" - Phillip Marlowe on tequila, Finger Man by Raymond Chandler. The Rainbow flag is fine. I consider it more a human rights issue than a political one in the sense that I was going for when I said no to political badges. I wouldn't expect it to cause trouble in the same way that, say, a symbol of a political party might.

Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.I'll make up some sexual orientation ones as well as some religious icons, and look into the other suggestions. I think I'll skip the political ones. Those get tricky. In the meantime, here's a heart container.

If you think having religious (or explicitly irreligious) badges would be a good idea, I want this one. (The "Scarlet A")

Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.Pondering the religious ones still. I'm trying to figure out how to do them in such a way that's not offensive. Working more on the sexuality right now. Having a hard time coming up with a generic military symbol. Might do a pith helmet. Trying not to pick something too American.

Now using Trivialis handle. We need a UN flag or a UFP flag
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Religious symbols seem pretty obvious. [1]
Rhymes with "Protracted."Maybe a pokeball badge?
I've got a new idea:
Profile Badges that direct others to certain other accounts such as You Tube, Deviant Art, Steam, X Box Live and so on. Any ideas?

I now go by Graf von Tirol.I don't think we can have a copyrighted symbol.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.Updated the OP with everything I can think of (minus my own suggestions). Decided to add a couple more categories under "other."

Programming and surgery have a lot of things in common: Don't start removing colons until you know what you're doing.
That is quite a bit, when you consider the size. Certainly makes a good example and might increase the variety of suggestions (more that use words).
Added to OP.
Yu hav nat sein bod speeling unntil know. (cacke four undersandig tis)the cake is a lie!I think a good option might be to offer a more expensive "custom" badge, where the user can send in their own badge, with mod approval, of course.
Also I'm not sure if religion badges are the best idea, but that's just me.
Hyperforce Go! http://vmkid.me/I think that if someone makes bigoted remarks to someone because of their badge they'll get the same warm reception as someone making bigoted remarks to a troper without a badge.

The child is father to the man —OedipusSomething slightly more related.

Bigoted remarks will get spanked just as hard post-badges as they would pre-badge.
We need Cthulhu and Flying Spaghetti Monster badges, now that I think about it.

Bunch of random badges for thoughts and opinions.

For example, an anti-semite dickwad is just as likely to say something stupid about Hershele's Hebrew script or a Star of David badge.
"Did anybody invent this stuff on purpose?" - Phillip Marlowe on tequila, Finger Man by Raymond Chandler.Needs a giant question mark for Agnostic :-P (Or the Riddler)
ACK!
...Well, I got what I wished for (sweat drop)
Now to figure out how to fit that all in...
EDIT: Actually, was not that hard. Just put most of it under "affiliation."

I think IJBM survivors might want an IJBM bug badge to show what they went through.
