The only parts of Fox that Disney did not acquire are the Fox broadcast network, Fox Sports and Fox News. Fox is going to continue to broadcast first-run episodes of The Simpsons.

FX and FXX were acquired by Disney. They've said they'll have all 30 seasons on Disney+, but they didn't say anything about whether reruns would continue on FXX.

The Bletchers and Hills on the other hand would be given the VIP treatment like the Simpsons.

Let's hope the Hills have a better time than the last time they crossed over. tongue

Hank would probably be suggesting that Disney make a movie based in Texas. Also he would totally go around the House Of Mouse advertising for Propane.

[up] Well, there's at least one Disney film set in Texas, but the fact that it's about the wrong kind of football (from Hank's American Football-based perspective) probably makes it so that it doesn't count in his eyes.

As far as I understand it, Disney will put the first 30 seasons exclusively on Disney +. So, newer seasons will still air as usual, but if you want to rewatch the older ones, Disney + will be the only source.

On the other hand, he would get along with Pecos Bill, since he's technically a Texas folklore figure.

I liked the joke in the April 7 episode where Marge prevents Lisa from applying current political humor to the Jebediah Springfield musical because Marge doesn't want the musical to become dated.

It could be taken as the show's explanation for why they've avoided directly referencing Trump since his inauguration (except for a lame joke about Trump having troll doll hair). It should not surprise anybody that The Simpsons avoid Trump when they only occasionally referenced Obama during his administration. I only recall the show directly referencing George W. Bush twice during his administration.

Marge's desire to avoid dated humor could also reference the show's struggle to provide fresh comedy when it takes months to complete a Simpsons episode. It's similar to the December 2011 episode "Ten Percent Solution" where Krusty complained about Itchy & Scratchy spoofing Social Network and King's Speech over a year after those movies hit theaters.

Well it took them four years to spoof "The Phantom Menace" mind.

[up][up] Which is weird, since the classic years had plenty of jokes ribbing on George Bush Sr and Bill Clinton while they were still office. IIRC, the writers mentioned in a DVD commentary the reason they avoid taking potshots at Dubya was because "his approval ratings kept changing every month" and they didn't want to risk taking jabs while they were high.

Yeah, that's pretty dumb reason for doing so, but that's what they said. Maybe that's the reason they've avoided doing the same for other presidents?

I think on that issue I agree with them. Although as noted, they did take more potshots at Bush Sr when he was in office than his son. Then again everyone was doing that during Bush Jr's time, so it wouldn't be as innovative.

Well they did take shots at President Trump… years before he was elected. Boy watching that episode today feels weird.

[up][up][up][up] And I dont think they spoofed South Park until season 13 (I think). On a side note, I wonder why they stopped using Star Wars and just made Galaxy Wars their go-to Star Wars expy.

[up][up][up]I heard that was a reason for South Park's apathy towards Bush Jr jokes as well. They made about one during Season Six or something, then just kept him out of focus unless the political jokes required him, simply because nearly every other media had run the "dumbass Bush" jokes into the ground already.

@Psi 001

Something that Family Guy didn't want to let go, even after Bush left office. I mean that infamous episode where they tried Brian stopped 9/11, which resulted in Bush losing his second term and ending up making the Neo-Confederates. In the present, this makes it even more laughable to think Bush would have even done that now that he's been more than a decade out of office and actually has been better received after his post-presidential years.

I say for the Simpsons don't run those obvious political jokes to the ground, because they become stale and dated as time goes by. Unless they can be made to feel timeless, like Mr. Lisa Goes To Washington. Yeah, that had George Bush Sr and Barbara when they were still in the White House, but the message is still relevant to this day about corruption and disillusionment with the system.

[up]I remember thinking that episode was a rather shameless only slightly hidden endorsement of Reader's Digest however. Seriously the whole first act is just the family gathering over all the awesome material it has and fawning over how great it is.

[up][up] "Two Bad Neighbors" is an interesting situation as it does have George and Barbara, but has almost zero political jokes.

"Two Bad Neighbours" was more a Take That! on how President Bush Sr decried the Simpsons than anything political.

The Simpsons has been on the air for so long that if they aged in real time, Bart would be older now than Homer was at the start

Oh, it had some political jokes, they're just subtle. Bush's memoirs, for example, from what we hear of them, are complete lies: the joke being that he is trying to repair his legacy after leaving office. That, and the episode is filled with jokes about his personality, like trying (and failing) to not appear weak in front of the Russians.

Now that I think about it, Bush reading US News and World Report could have been a (long-delayed) shot at how they used to do ads decrying Time and Newsweek putting the Simpsons on the cover while pushing how they (US News) was "real news".

In one Treehouse Of Horror segment, Billy The Kid introduces the most evil German who ever lived: Otto Von Bismarck

That joke is funny on two levels

One: Billy The Kid obviously wouldn't know Hitler. He died in 1881, 8 years before Hitler was born.

Two: It could be argued that Hitler wasn't German since he was born and grew up in Austria.

I saw Star Is Born today and was really impressed by Lady Gaga's performance.

I never really had much experience with Lady Gaga before the Simpsons' god-awful Season 23 finale "Lisa Goes Gaga". There have been plenty of Simpson episodes that I didn't find funny but with a lot of jokes in "Lisa Goes Gaga" I couldn't even understand why the jokes were supposed to be funny. To be fair, I might have enjoyed the episode more if I actually knew anything about Lady Gaga before I saw the episode.

It didn't help that the episode focused on Lisa, who is super-whiney in the episode. She is by far my least favorite member of the Simpson nuclear family. I stress "Nuclear Family" because I don't care for her but I I loathe "The Gruesome Twosome". That's not to say I can't enjoy a Lisa episode. She has been the center of episodes I loved like "They Saved Lisa's Brain", "The President Wore Pearls" and "Girls Just Wanna Have Sums".

Like it or hate it, "Lisa Goes Gaga" does have an important place in Simpsons history. It was during the premiere of "Lisa Goes Gaga" that Fox announced Maggie Simson's animated short would be screened before Ice Age 4. I remember somebody on the Simsons' IMDB message board writing that they planned on buying a ticket for Ice Age 4 and leaving after the Maggie Simpson short. The Maggie Simpson short earned The Simpsons the Oscar nom they should have gotten for The Simpsons Movie (to heck with Sony and their stupid surfing penguins!). Sadly, their was no follow-up Simpsons short for Ice Age 5.

In addition to Lady Gaga's performance in Star Is Born, three other acting Oscar nominations in 2018 went to Simpsons veterans. Glenn Close (Actress nominee for The Wife) has voiced Mona Simpson many times. Willem Dafoe (Actor nominee for At Eternity's gate) guest starred in separate Simpsons episodes as a military school commandant and as a mean teacher. Rachel Weisz (Supporting Actress nominee for The Favorite) voiced a psychiatrist in the Season 22 episode "How Munched Is That Birdy In The Window".

Just watched "D'Oh Canada!" Fair warning: it's a Lisa episode.

Quick summary:

Canada is a paradise and their healthcare system is flawless and free. Justin Trudeau is a dreamy, athletic hearthrob. We hate Trump. No reason given, just name-calling.

Jokes? Not allowed in a Lisa episode!

Don't worry, I wiped my shoes before stepping into your echo chamber.

Oh boy, and this is not so long after that horrid Bart vs Itchy and Scratchy episode. Modern Simpsons really know how to make crummy political episodes.
