That has been proposed in the Tech Wishlist before.

So if Incredibly Lame Pun shows up in a trope list for a work, not potholed, should it be removed?

Unless it fits Lame Pun Reaction, that is.

If it shows up in a trope list, potholed, and referring to a pun not made by a troper, does it stay or go?

If it's potholing a pun, just move on.

This has been stalling since at least late June. Somehow, I wish I hadn't proposed anything here.

Is there any progress going on here?

Honestly, if you ask me, we should just kill Incredibly Lame Pun. It's a redundant way to point out obvious puns.

That's not enough of a readon to cut, in my mind.

I was trying to reference Understatement, but found that that's a trope and Pun is an index.

On cleanup. What has been done so far?

As much as I would love to just kill Incredibly Lame Pun, the TRS thread on that trope specifically voted against it, so it's not an option.

And on this, not much. I work on it for a bit, lose interest, wander away, come back, rinse, repeat. And as far as I can tell, I'm the only one who's been attacking the wicks at all.

A look at the Pun related page makes me actually wonder if the wick count is actually increasing.

Since the problem is Incredibly Lame Pun in trope lists, could be there some sort of way that works like the highlighted bullet for YMMV tropes saying that the page should not be linked in a trope list? Such a thing would work for other Just for Fun items as well.

The crowner for Pun/Punny Stuff decided to leave ILP as a Pothole Magnet.

I meant like YMMV tropes, where Incredibly Lame Pun anywhere else would be fine, but in a bulleted list in a page typed as work would mark that it is wrong. The nessage would have to be changed, or people will think it's a YMMV trope.

Since this is a tech issue, I'll resurrect a thread on it.

Ok, it's been over a month, and no progress apparently. Is there a reason to still try? I don't think we have interest for such an undertaking.

Also, since this is a more related thread - ought Pun be defined as an index or a trope + index, page type wise?

I don't see Pun in trope lists often. In fact, it seems chairsy to me.

The reason this is not progressing is that there are two proposed ways to resolve it: either the tropers have to manually do the cleanup or Eddie needs to code something that is often requested but still not implemented.

I have another idea. Change Incredibly Lame Pun from a redirect to a jokey policy page (like TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Vocabulary). On that page, usage could be explained, asking users not to use this in a trope list.

I do not agree with "chairsy" here - unlike furniture, puns usually have to be put in deliberately, and often have funny or other value to justify their inclusion.

Definitely not chairsy.

Pun was created as a supertrope. So it should definitely be trope+index. Otherwise, we could have just left it at Punny Stuff.

I thought that threads with only cleanup left to do (which is what this is) didn't get clocked?
