I think there is a benefit to making a new thread just for the updatable OP

we sort of had to do that with the signup thread after squid left, anyways, so its not as tho its not something that hasn't happened before

So this has been something I've been sitting on for the whole rest of the day that I didn't see get any pick up. This will probably tick a few of you off, and it might make a few others feel uneasy especially given how I've been on the other side of the fence until now. But I want you to know it's not a decision that came out of nowhere, and every step of this idea there's been a lot of thought put into it to help benefit everyone.

I agree with Stone and Mask in that, if we leave the room in this new setting our natural inclination will be to stay inside of it and retain our old structure. And while I feel that should be an option on the table, if we stick to our guns and specifically keep our interactions in the room as we know it- the main room, infinite hallways, the intensely spacious basement, etc- rather than a similar structure with less going on in it- like say an apartment complex or whatever- it'd render the setting shift a little moot.

For Season 2, I'm seeing two possibilities that will have to occur to make the expanded setting more significant.

Either the room does not stay or the room stays, but all the extra parts you wouldn't find in a normal house are simply exported out to different places in the city.

For example, the basement pool becomes a public pool, or the Mood Reversal room finds a new spot to settle in the city (I admittedly am entirely out of the loop on what's up with the Mood Reversal, but as I understand it can potentially be something that can find a new home outside the room). The firing range becomes a normal firing range building, Mura's smithy also becomes an actual building, etc etc.

Really liking the sound of the second. Maybe the mood-reversal medicine can like... I'm not so familiar with it either, but maybe some fuckery could make it deep into the groundwater in a specific part of town so the contamination is less contained and more people are likely to accidentally happen upon it and get mood reversed.

(just as an aside, I spent like several months misreading "medicine" and assumed it was a mood reversal machine... rip)

Mura's gonna be really really glad she specced her skill points in Territory Creation instead of Riding.

Realtalk tho, I like that proposal of yours. It'd be neat to have a "hub building" to substitute for the Room, but I'm fine either way.

The latter sounds like the best compromise, yeah. How clustered would these locations be? Or would we keep it vague?

if we had to choose i'd pick the second option

that way you can have the room itself as like

a commemorative memorial or something in the city center/park

spitballing here but

[up] just have them around in the city i reckon, the same as any other location in the city that'd crop up

i think it'd be good for distances to be vague lmao

And here I was sketching out a character arc for Homura about letting go and coming to terms with all the house extensions she built suddenly going poof.

The Mood Reversal stuff is basically a scent-activated "medicine" that when smelled makes someone act completely different for a temporary amount of time (not necessarily opposite, but that's what it's called).

During one of the Gundam Thief battles, Convoy and I rigged it so Frey's room got destroyed during the fight, and the medicine got soaked into the carpet so that people could choose to have their characters walk by it, smell it, and then get affected temporarily (bringing it to an end when they'd like).

I've done it with multiple characters and I have plans for more.

It's not easy to replace, nor would any of the characters involved want it to still be around, but I want to be able to continue to do this.

I'd need for it to be easy enough to do so I can have my characters go through it and realistically be able to find the characters of other people that I want involved with them.

A good example of what I did with the Mood Reversal Medicine is with Young Aichi, and I can link to the session he was Mood Reversed in as an example if necessary. It was all optional for everyone, and I was actually hoping more people might have been interested in it (I'm still waiting for Convoy to use Mood Reversed Leos and Mood Reversed Sthesia), but it mostly went under the radar... ^^;

As for the situation about the Room proper... Yeah, the second option sounds good.

@mega think of it like

they're not Literally The House Extensions like not that the rooms she build flying into the city

but that the characters find buildings that sorta serve the same purpose

@crystal: obvsly this is just spitballing but something like

it gets stuck in soda machines so 1/100 soda cans have it in them or whatever the heck

that way it's sort of ubiquitous yet at the same time not a guarantee to the point where people would avoid soda cans

So, if needed, would we need to use a virtual dice or something to see if said character get affected?

Taking it a little too literally there, I believe. I think the idea is to make it so that it can happen whenever people happen to feel like it.

That sounds like it could work (In the end I can imagine ingesting would result in being affected as well), but the problem is that I might have characters that won't drink a soda or otherwise wouldn't really know how to go about using a soda machine (108 still doesn't have a great grasp on the concept of currency for example [So he'd really have to figure out how many coins/dollar bills he'd have to use... and heck, he'd need money to begin with!], and he's one of them I'm really wanting to have it happen to [Although I suppose I could have it so he's been working on learning it before I have it happen]).

Also, it's OK, Convoy. I've been like that before.

Side question... How would the medicine get into the machine?

1. It isn't the fact that there would be equivalent facilities so much as the fact that she Didn't Build That. (I'm talking completely within universe here - I don't have any objections to this proposal as a player.)

2. Japanese vending machines have a very wide array of products for sale.

[up] Good point about the vending machines. I still mostly need help with the idea of the cash and how the medicine got into the vending machine to affect the stuff anyway.

As mentioned, 108 doesn't really carry money around... I'd have to figure out a way for him to get money to use on a vending machine.

Perhaps set 108 up with a debit card. More modern vending machines take card now.

Oh also, I recall like, concerns being posed about money, obtaining it and what to do if chars couldn't get jobs.

Just puttin' out there: If the Room has an infinite-spawn fridge, why can't people's houses also do this? c; That way, money can kinda be restricted to when someone would like to, say, take their significant other out to eat at a fancy place or shell out for some new boots or what have you.

IDK this is maybe just me speaking as... well, me, but I'm just envisioning this little polity as an Animal Crossing town for some reason. :P

[up] I suppose that's fair enough, but that's still not helping me with the Mood Reversal stuff being restricted to a vending machine when a character I planned for it to happen to doesn't have any money unless his housemates actually start providing him with allowance.

Meanwhile I'm imagining a city for some reason... heck, I'm actually imagining the park having that weird little lake/pond/whatever it is that you see Aichi sitting at in canon.
