Anyway, this is the page on Derpy, and this picture is the first instance of her name among the fandom.

I wasn't sure whether we were supposed to do before, after, or both for contrast.

Anyway, here is Derpy's first canon appearance. Her onscreen appearances occur during 1:50-2:40, and later from 3:12-3:17. What kind of screenshot from it should we be going for here?

The actual ascended part is Rainbow saying Derpy's name.

Huh? I thought the "ascended" part was that she was portrayed as the fandom sees her at all. (Granted, she was portrayed as such for a few seconds in Hearth's Warming Eve, but that's easy to miss.)

In any case, I would have thought subtitles referring to her as Derpy would be a substitute for other characters doing the same. Besides, the video I linked to doesn't subtitle Rainbow as saying her name while showing Derpy's face at the same time.

Well her acting goofy was part of this, but the name Derpy wasn't in the show until that moment.

I don't see how this is in any way better than the official Leekspin card. Leekspin does qualify for an ascended meme, as the name and humor come from a few frames from a Bleach episode in the same amount of context as this Pony image.

I don't see how Derpy is a good enough example for the image. Leekspin is a much clearer case of Ascended Meme and a lot easier to show with an image. Just throw the TCG card up and you're done.

What about the Leeroy Jenkins meme [1]◊ and link the video [2] and its appearance on Jeopardy

Problem with the Leeroy Jenkins card is that it's already the page image for the Memes.World Of Warcraft page.

I now go by Graf von Tirol.

The leekspin card does not indicate that it was a meme and not in the show. Thus it objectively does not indicate this trope.

Leeroy's Jeopardy appearance wouldn't have been in the same series, and thus wouldn't really be an ascended meme. The card, however, is just about as good as the Bleach one.

Not any better at all. It's basically Just A Face And A Caption in the image, as opposed to Leeroy Jenkins, which is a Trope Namer, and Leekspin, which was a major meme and a page image for a fairly major memes subpage.

1. I don't think you know what picture I mean. A forum screencap is not JAFAAC, when it states the date the meme started.

2. Cards that don't indicate they were memes before DO fit JAFAAC. Thinking we would know they are memes without further context is Fan Myopia.

That leekspin or Leeroy Jenkins is a feature of a card should show that it's the meme. And being an official card should show that it has ascended.

Derpy, meanwhile, shows neither.

You can't base an argument on a "should". It only matters what it does show. Where on the cards does it say it came from something not from the official works? And try any "it's obvious" comments, since that is Fan Myopia.

And yeah, the Derpy pics don't show the date on the aired scene, so they don't work in that regard either.

And neither I would have any idea that leekspin and leroy are anything more than just joke cards if I hadn't seen the videos.
