I saw the trailer for The Lorax.
I then began punching myself. It's a good thing Theodor Geisel is already dead; that's all I have to say.
Don't you try anything, you baked good you. There is a second trailer out that more elaborates that the plot is more of an expansion. Try reserving your judgement until you see it.
I am always cagey where Adaptation Expansion is involved, but I must say, the casting choice for the Lorax himself was perfect. Danny De Vito is the affable curmudgeon. And that's all I ask for the Lorax to be. A Jerk With A Heart Of Granola Girl.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaFor whatever reason the trailer I saw made me cry. I have decided I must go see it since I liked what I saw.
WHAT IS IT LIKE AS A WHOLE?!
If someone wants to accuse us of eating coconut shells, then that's their business. We know what we're doing. - Achaan Chahit looks good so far, even if Zac Efron is in it.
I'll be honest, I can't remember if I read the book when I was little. And I haven't seen the previous Dr Seuss adaptation (that one was Horton Hears A Who, right?), so I dunno what to expect here. I will say this:
- All the marketing tie-ins seem to be completely missing the point of the movie.
- That character Taylor Swift plays is the cutest thing ever. Even if it does seem like she'll be a Manic Pixie Dream Girl.

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.I was surprised by Horton when I saw it. Like I said, Adaptation Expansion makes me wary, but it was a funny movie with good comedic timing, and a lot of heart. It didn't feel like "Let's make an adaptation of a beloved children's book because it will make us money" (which was always kind of how the live-action The Grinch felt to me), it felt like "Let's make a great family film based on a beloved picture book because it meant to much to us when we were kids."
But this is a different studio. But I can recommend Horton.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaI'll check it out then. Been meaning to do so for a while anyway.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle. This is either going to be a good movie in the Seuss style which leaves me feeling impressed and amused; or a terrible movie in the romance style which leaves me feeling disappointed and amused.
Either way, I'm going to see this movie.
If you want any of my avatars, just Pm me I'd truly appreciate any avatar of a reptile sleeping in a Nice Hat Read Elmer Kelton booksWell, it's done by the studio that did Despicable Me. That's enough of a selling point as far as I'm concerned.
Still, I'll hold off on judgement until I've actually seen the thing. As it stands my only worry is that they may be dividing themselves between two stories here, which is always a bad idea.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes.Despicable Me was a great movie, I'll admit - But I'm not jumping out of my seat to see this one, sadly.
This movie doesn't really feel like it's going to capture what made the source material so memorable and awesome to people (can't include myself on this one - but I saw the TV movie for this and know how dark and intelligent it was), as much as it looks to be about teen love most of us aren't going to give a damn about.
Sorry. My two cents... I'd hate to have to be convinced by reviews of it - I almost do want to see it as a means of simply me supporting Western animation...
This is where I, the Vampire Mistress, proudly reside: http://liberal.nationstates.net/nation=nova_nacioThe first trailer made me laugh aloud (and I was expecting to be bored!)
The second made me go "Yep, they are going all 'Hollywood' here" (eg. adding gratuitous action and romance) BUT they did a similar thing with Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs *and it worked!*
The Mazda trailer just made me slap my forehead. At least they didn't have the Lorax himself praise the car. -_-
Overall: looks fun, I'll watch it.

I'll be honest, I haven't yet seen Meatballs or Despicable Me yet either...

Shame! Shaaaaameeee!
Casting Danny Devito as a diminutive, exceptionally hairy creature? Excellent.
Turning the plot of the Lorax into a Boy Meets Girl story, I'm not feeling it.
I was not a fan of Despicable Me or the Horton movie, and I give most of my praise for The Grinch to its wild re-imagining of Whoville.
Still, the second trailer's got me interested. I'll have to give this one a shot and see it.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Horton movie, but I feel positive about this movie. The problem with the past few Seuss movies is that, in order to stretch out the stories to feature length, they just had comedic actors riff and go on rambling "comedic" rants. This looks like they are actually trying to build a story onto the original story. Who knows if it will actually work, but at the very least, I think they are at least going in the right direction.

Every time I see the Commercials on TV for this, or hear about the Lorax in any way, I can't help but hear that 'Everybody needs a kneed' song in my head.
I really hope they do some renditions of the songs from the old one! If they did and they were any good, that'd be worth ticket price alone.
I'll probably give it a chance. (I should also note that Audrey Geisel a.k.a. Dr. Seuss's wife/widow, is executive producer of the film. So she should be fine with some of the changes)
I would have liked it if the rest of the once-ler's family had green gloves like he does
http://s1.zetaboards.com/Conceptual_Evolution/ http://sagan4.com/forum/index.phpYeah, I would've liked that too. Plus his early gloves are too short, they need to be arms length at least.
Anyway, the biggest draw I have towards this film is that we actually get a relative backstory to the Once-ler as opposed to the stereotypical "Happy Forest exists, Evil Man takes control and everything goes to hell". I find it a lot more compelling that he's a Wide-Eyed Idealist turned Nietzsche Wannabe. And Ed Helms...perfect Typecasting ever.

You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.Lorax being on The Voice tonight...
Now what does a tree-defending puffball have anything to do with the the judging of voices?
What? The Grinch was terrible. How is it that this was the guy who directed A Beautiful Mind and Willow was behind it?
The whole point of the story was that the Whos enjoyed Christmas for Christmas sake and nothing could ruin it. They're just materialistic assholes now who have to learn it. No wonder The Grinch abandoned them, along with what he got for trying to impress that lady friend.
I dearly hope The Lorax doesn't overdo any kind of angles like that, thus undermining everything.
