And, while to me this detail is not controversial at all but to others it may be, other than Adora saying "For the honor of Grayskull!" in order to transform to She-Ra, there is zero mention of Castle Grayskull, He-Man, Skeletor or anything or anyone from Eternia or even the whole planet itself for that matter. Not even Easter Eggs. Again, it's fine by me as it keeps the story centered to Etheria but some people may not have liked Eternia's absence.

From what little I read of the thread about it on this wiki, I think there were some rights issues at the time that the series couldn't fully reconcile, hence the lack of reference to Eternia.

I've always been confused by the legality of Hordak and the Evil Horde. They were used in the 2002 He-Man, who couldn't use She-Ra stuff, and then they were also used in the Princesses of Power series, which couldn't use He-Man stuff. So I'm not sure which part of the franchise they belong to, legally speaking.

[up][up]Eternia is mentioned a few times. The only real difference between the two show's in terms of backstory is that Skeletor's involvement in the kidnapping is removed.

Well, whatever part of the franchised they belonged to, it looks like everything is back under one banner.

Also, someone I know thinks the next series will be called Revenge.

It perfectly fits both the naming scheme and the context.

Also it's not Hordak who kidnapped her. It was Light Hope who did so, with Hordak actually saving an abandoned infant Adora in a field when he found her investigating the portal that brought her to Etheria

My understanding is that due to a rights screwup in the 1980s Filmation's legal successor, Dreamworks, still has the non-exclusive right to make new She-Ra properties. So they can do whatever they want with She-Ra (but only She-Ra) without Mattel's permission. However, Mattel can still do their own version.

CBS had a similar problem with Star Trek: The Animated Series. CBS ended up writing a check to settle the rights.

As for the Dreamworks version, I liked it a lot. The closest thing to a legitimate criticism was They Changed It, Now It Sucks! They made a lot of changes to the characters, mostly positive ones IMHO, but I can see not liking that.

So Dreamworks can keep doing their own She-Ra stuff (divorced from He-Man) but Mattel can also do She-Ra stuff (but actually reference He-man)?

I think so. There's also the question as to whether Dreamworks wants to do anything else.

There's also the question on whether ND Stevenson wants to create a sequel or let the story end on a high note.

I felt some of their try and go Grey-and-Grey Morality didn't really land. Nor did applying Adaptational Attractiveness to a lot of the classic villains like Scurvy. Why was he even called "scurvy" then?

Also they apparently found Adora having a secret identity "silly" which just seems a bizarre quibble given the universe is essentially a giant toy chest of ideas.

Adora having a secret identity was unnecessary because she was a rebel in her main identity, and it lead to weird things where she was trying to seduce Sea Hawk as She-Ra despite them being together in her other identity.

That might've been playful banter. Or a Secret Test of Character?

... Yeah, not a good look for her, really.

I'm just here to say that if Despera/Adora, or whatever her name is, has a male love interest, he's going to suffer Die for Our Ship.

[up]Just make Catradora canon in this continuity too.

Alternatively, ''Retribution'".

I think depending on how close they stick to the original cartoon, it'll be a little shocking for people who've only seen the Netflix She-Ra. Can't wait to see Catra turn into a panther.

[up]And why are they forced to do it?

You're missing the point. They are not forced to do it, but the point is they can and likely will do it, as they are trying to more closely follow the 80s shows rather than any of the later adaptations, such as the 2010s She-Ra show more people are familiar with.
