It's a lot worse than people think. Butch Hartman is free to believe in whatever religion he wants, but he never disclosed the information about Oaxis being a Christian-focused streaming service at all on the kickstarter. People only found out by watching an unrelated youtube video where he talked about it months ago. When people pointed that out, he (or his friend/agent?) took it down, and they had to reupload it somewhere else for other people to see it.

For a guy that claims he's above criticism (and shames anyone that tries to ask him such questions because apparently they're not artists and shouldn't even give critique) he's very dodgy, evasive and take-down happy. Any sort of negativity he gets, he either ignores it or takes it down, never properly acknowledging it. Someone asked him about a meme with Family Guy playing over his Oaxis trailer, and after a rather scathing, dismissive response to Dueling Duelist Drew about it, he took down that live-stream. A pod cast with Tara Strong had him joke that Mary Kay Bergman committed suicide because of Strong herself, and when that otherwise easy-to-miss joke went viral, he went and edited it out.

Butch Hartman, instead of owing to his mistakes and hurtful comments, is deleting any sort of evidence against him that he can. Problem is, this is the internet, and information told there has a habit of STAYING there. He's going to war against many angry people online and losing, trying to downplay the situation by periodically uploading click-bait youtube videos despite the fact his subscriber count is dropping fast like an Acme Anvil. For someone who "created our childhoods", he sure is doing a good job breaking it via Broken Pedestal.

Some evidence on twitter:

Butch Hartman talking about his Oaxis kickstarter being completed on a Christian news channel: https://twitter.com/RiseFallNick/status/1019982085401055232

Butch Hartman calling out people with critique as "weak": https://twitter.com/RiseFallNick/status/1019920872201744384

Butch Hartman making a joke about a transsexual actor on one of his Noog shows months ago and then deleting the source tweet JUST after someone archived it on their own twitter just below: https://twitter.com/mayhem_crimson/status/1019457849750097921

The stream he deleted that shamed a fan with a question, part of his "I'm above criticism" mentality: https://twitter.com/mayhem_crimson/status/1019426107089711104

A condensed video about him talking about Oaxis and what he plans to do, with some interesting tidbits about what he thinks is "wrong" with television: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPDpRwpSPf4

Best read and watch these fast; these keep getting taken down rather fast.

... he IS AWARE that all of his shows had thematic/crude/slighty risque elements too right!!??

I know, it's weird. And when you think about it, Fairly Oddparents and Danny Phantom (his two most popular shows) have HORRIBLE "family values" if the families themselves are horrible to each other. Timmy has neglectful parents to the point it stops being funny, and a babysitter flanderized into being pure evil incarnate. His fairy family isn't that much better when Wanda was reduced to a worry nagging nanny and Cosmo's stupidity rivals Timmy's real dad.

And Danny Phantom has Danny deal with typical, cringey high school stuff, right down to embarrassing parents. Parents who are so crazy about ghosts that they want to hunt and DISSECT his alter-ego ghost persona.

And that's not getting into the fact that one show has magical wish-fulfillment gone wrong and the other barely skirts the edge of demonology and afterlife.

There's just so many levels of Poor Communication Kills involved with this. I bet if he had just been completely upfront about what Oaxis was, I doubt anybody would have ended up caring and this wouldn't have blown up in his face so spectacularly.

Im not going to forgive him for the Mary Kay Bergman joke. That alone is unforgiveable.

I feel I should note that some of this stuff was up LONG before the kickstarter came up at mid June. The Tara Strong podcast, for example, aired as far back as January of this year. I think there was a boiling point for many people realizing that he was kind of a hack;personally I realized this when FOP started becoming unwatchable and DP also falling into badly written cliches.

On the one hand, it does look like people are grasping every bit of ammo to fire at Butch for being a lying jerk, looking through stuff he said months ago. But if he was really above criticism, he wouldn't take such stuff down in a reactionary manner. If anything, it makes his sketchy behavior look worse.

It was only through Oaxis that people REALLY started to notice something was off, as he never once answered questions if the so called family friendly streaming service would include LGBTQ values too. Plus, it was kind of alarming that a guy with a net worth around 50 million or so would have to ask people on a crowdfunding site to chip in $250k, which is essentially chump change to him. Even so much as BEGGING on some of the final days...

Btw, for those wondering, here's the "joke" he made on Mary Kay Bergman: https://twitter.com/FRANKIE_MENT4L/status/1020137969385197568

...

Well, this is making me glad I grew out of OddParents and Hartman in general!

Also, suicide does not equal viable joking material, so him trying to make fun as something as heavy as Mary Kay Bergman's passing gives me more reason to keep away from him.

Well that is fucked up. While I am usually the type who believes in any subject matter being a good target for comedy, that was a pretty tasteless thing to joke about seeing how that’s a former colleague of Ms. Strong.

That would be like if I joked Kurt Corbain killed himself because he have to listen to his own songs way too many times . . . than again I do get pretty depressed from listening to his era of Nirvana . . . no no no, that’s still not a funny joke (though it does says a lot about my own psyche over how that band impacts me on a personal scale).

Point is this really does lower my respect for the guy. I will acknowledge he made good stuff with Johnny Bravo, early season Fairly Odd Parents, Danny Phantom and the hugely underatted Tuff Puppy but I have to say he really fell from grace as a creator. Like Frank Millers level of low.

Gasp! He became Tobuacus has he?

. . . Or Danoboe since you are obviously refering to him and his creation. But still same thing since both became irrelevant after that Annoying Orange cartoon that in hindsight shouldn’t have been greenlitted.

I swear, this controversy is one that keeps on giving. Hackman continues to delete/edit anything that paints him in a negative light, like his alternate account on youtube and the viewing history (which oddly favorites all of his official videos). And if you think things are dandy on the Kickstarter side, negative posts there keep getting deleted and he refuses to give refunds to the people asking.

https://twitter.com/MathewNewsRadio/status/1020502618303606784

He's trying to hide it, but Butch Hackman is probably having a meltdown if he's continuing this denial of "badness" and keeping all the money he stole through lying and manipulation.

Something's gotta give and I feel an intervention will happen sooner or later. Hackman can delete and hide all the evidence he wants, but there are more people than him that can and will access the information and share with anyone else.

Hence why I'm talking about it here. I hope to bring more people aware about this horrible circumstance.

And if it sounds insulting to call him Butch Hackman, well... I honestly believe at this point that the reason Timmy Turner's dad is so popular is that he was a self-insert of Hackman, before the fairy doctor became a literal self-insert.

Didn't know there was a real Hackman I was mocking by association. I apologize. I thought I was was being clever with changing his last name to something that he's been doing shamelessly.

Point still stands that Butch HART-man is a dishonest jerk and now karma is catching up to him in waves of people realizing how two-faced he is, despite his "best efforts" in hiding anything untoward against him.

Yeah. I was hoping I wouldn't have to add another animator to my "people-I-once-looked-up-to-but-now-hope-to-never-end-up-like" list, but I guess that's life.

Butch being a fundie has been known for a while, I thought. Wasn't that why he introduced that bizarre "Ghosts aren't really ghosts" retcon in DP? Granted, we never knew he wanted to indoctrinate children before...

I am going to be honest I really feel rubbed the wrong way when people say making religious children programming is indoctrinating children.

I dont recall Butch being a fundie until fairly recently, and the dany Phantom recon about 'not really ghosts lol' was done to appease Nickelodeon as I recall since I recall reading somewhere that they thought the concept of death was too scary for kids

I don't particularly care about Butch wanting to make a christian streaming network (well, it's not quite that simple given Butch's particular brand of "christianity", but that's another can of worms) it's jut that if that's what he wanted he should have been honest about it.
