So, um, this◊. It's not out yet in my parts so I haven't played it myself, but it looks like they cleared up the fog so much that the draw-distance it was ment to conceal became visible. And according to reports, there's quite a bit more going on...
edit: oh, and this◊, good lord.

Yeah, I think I prefer the fog.
#IceBearForPresidentI can't speak for anyone else, but I like being able to play Silent Hill in HD...yes, it needs some touch-ups, but it's not unplayable crap, and Tomm Hulett has said that Konami wants to hear (constructive) feedback from the fans.

Somehow you know that the time is right.I'm having some problems keeping my gamer's morale lately due to this Porting Disaster bullshitery. Nothing has put me into more of an Heroic BSoD than this, on top of other bad news (Zipper Interactive closing down, the possible cancellation of Prey 2, the Bio Shock movie slipping into Development Hell...).
I hate you, Konami. I've never met a game company that I believe in as little as you anymore.
In case it's not there yet, can we add the HD Collection to the Porting Disaster page? I've heard that the game freezes randomly; plays the wrong voice clips for certain scenes, which leads to spoilers; and due to a certain graphical layer being removed, the solution to a puzzle can't be divined. It seems that the PS 3 version receives the brunt of the complaints.
Actually, now that I've read about the cast for the new voiceovers, I'm kind of interested in hearing those at least. It somehow seems... wrong that my FAVORITE voice actress, Laura Bailey, plays Claudia now. I wonder if she sounds like Lust with an inexplicable British accent.

I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencyKONAMI ANNOUNCES UPCOMING PATCHES FOR SILENT HILL DOWNPOUR AND HD COLLECTION
New online patch will correct frame rate and audio synch issues
Today, Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. announced that online patches for both Silent Hill Downpour and Silent Hill HD Collection are currently in development and will be released soon.
Understanding the issues some users are experiencing, development teams are currently creating online patches for both games, which will fix the frame rate issues, the audio-synching in Silent Hill HD Collection, and the Auto-Save issues in Silent Hill Downpour. Players have voiced their concerns, and solutions to these issues will be fixed and launched in the coming weeks.
Patches for Silent Hill Downpour and Silent Hill HD Collection will be made available on both XBOX®Live Arcade and Play Station®Network. Both Silent Hill Downpour and Silent Hill HD Collection are available at retail stores nationwide.
Beat me to it.

Hope they fix the fact that James' panting sounds like a rhinoceros inflating a balloon.
I'd actually like to hear that.
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencyNote how they say nothing about restoring the fog effects...
"If you're out here why do I miss you so much?"It's kinda sad how these HD collections have been released in a state that, though playable, is essentially worse than playing the originals on PS 2. The fact that they have to be patched at all is either a sign of laziness in Konami, incompetence in the developers of this port, or both.
The developer that handled the porting duties is apparently a rookie one.
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencySo get this, the HD disaster wasn't the dev teams fault at all.
That's actually kind of hilarious.
... Welp, I've had my daily dose of pants-on-head retarded now.
Long live Cinematech. FC:0259-0435-4987Wow.
#IceBearForPresidentThey lost the source code? How the f—- does that happen? Did it run out the door like an excitable pet or something? How is it even possible for a company as incompetent as this to stay in business? RRRRRRRRR
I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting AgencySo the PS 3 version of the HD collection has apparently been patched now, fixes include:
I bought said version a while ago and there really were some incredibly ludicrous errors present, like the sound of gunshots appearing a good 5 seconds after the shot had been fired, monster sounds that occasionally went 8-bit, and when Heather meets Claudia that evil... yodeling... song wasn't there. The new voice acting is actually really quite good, though.
Fixes? Fuck, I may have to re-buy this now.
Somehow you know that the time is right.Hideo Kojima wants to do a Silent Hill game.
Yeah.
I'd watch that movie.
#IceBearForPresidentThat'd be interesting. Will it be set in the '60s during the cold war and set up the entire series? 'cause that'd be cool.

I'd buy it twice.

Eh, I can wait a couple more weeks. The only Silent Hill game I ever owned or played was 2, which I bought on a suggestion from a friend. I don't regret it at all, as it introduced me to a franchise I was otherwise indifferent to. I'm primarily getting the HD collection just to play 3, but a revamped 2 doesn't hurt either. On the topic of 2, I can honestly say that it still is the scariest game I have played, due to its obscene use of Nothing Is Scarier. What's up with that spine-chilling noise in the Hospital Basement? It serves no purpose other than to make you not want to go down there. What's with all the suspenseful build up to just who or what was locked in the "Basement's Basement", only to have it completely empty save for a key? That's one thing that this game has mastery over that franchises like Resident Evil don't: a killer sense of subtlety. In RE, if you hear a scary noise from just around the bend, it's because a creature is about to jump out and tear you a new one. In SH, you'll turn the corner just for the noise to suddenly stop and never return again, leaving you wondering just what the hell it was.
