Rename: The Mario

Not exactly thrilled with you pimping this thread out like that... You are not exactly neutral in this. The outside influenced it enough to take it from +3 to what it is now. which I have some issues with as we have people who just love to cause problems or just hate us.... You didn't post on any of those I hope?

I think the way the advertisement is worded will tend to selectively draw people in favor of a rename. Because people generally consider no action to be the default, people who want to keep it probably won't realize that they have to vote to maintain the status quo.

Perhaps it could be worded differently to emphasize that no votes are also requested? Something like

"There is currently a rename attempt crowner for The Mario, so votes would be appreciated, either for or against renaming"

Fair enough. I guess I should not worry about Tropers actually getting to vote in cases like these if they do not regular the Trope Repair Shop. After all, they should not have a right to know about decisions relating to the site they are a part of, no?

AKA What Tropers, not TRS regulars, think of this rename.

I posted it in various media threads and in a site that other Tropers visit. And before you scream bias, yes, those same Tropers are half the people in this thread, including INUH and English Ivy. Not on a site where people hate this site, just where people not really active on TRS can see it.

Besides which, I showed you the type of message I have posted. Would you like to claim that that message is biasing people?

Ok, I tried putting a thread in the Video Game forum, which should hopefully get people's attention if they haven't seen it already.

A neutral wiki announcement done by a neutral mod should of been the way to go. Even if you made it seem neutral the fact you did it puts as not neutral.

Sorry, What kind of logic are you pulling here? That a troper cannot advertise a rename crowner because it goes against fair play? How is that so? And also this is not a competition, this is a democratic process. Id Est: Vox Populi; Vox Dei, The majority chooses above the few and all that is related to that. And to finish, Cygan needs not to be neutral to advertise in an objective manner.

Just make The Mario the supertrope for those two and call the page Jack of all Trades from now on, since it's so iconic. Or...make those two the subtropes for Jack of all Trades? (Is there a difference?)

Well it went down slightly since it was at +42, but that could easily just be random variation.

Meanwhile, the rename crowner, which is still open, is at 94 yea, 55 nay (1.70:1). Still not 2:1.

That seems unreasonable. If I cared (I don't), I might be a little upset. Maybe we should have a crowner to see if we have consensus to ignore the usual guidelines?

No, it hasn't been accepted, Fighteer simply diceded that there was concensus and that the crowner was stable, even though there were none and it wasn't stable.

I'm upset even though I stop caring becuase of that.

This crowner looks pretty decided to me. Should we use the top losing example as a redirect?

The guidelines are exactly that - guidelines. I.e. not set in stone, and the case was far too clear cut in the favour of the pro-rename camp to not rename as part of the broader goal of fixing the problem with these tropes.

There is no policy or hard rule that anything has to be decided by a 2:1 vote count. That's just a rule of thumb that people find easy to remember. As the front page states, Tvtropes is quite a bit more informal than That Other Wiki.

I really don't like the current winning name. It's going to be amazingly confusing when Jack of All Trades is launched and it's reflective of the current misuse that we're trying to get rid of by doing a rename in the first place. It's the exact opposite of what we're trying to get in a name.

I think the opposite. I think the one-word difference makes it clear that this trope is about stats and the other is not.

I'm with you on this, I figured we'd avoid the "jack of all-" name to avoid it's potential confusion with the other jacks and go with something like "Balanced" or something in that vein.
