Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

She can’t do anything else so she’s gonna keep resorting to this petty edgy bullshit.
It's been 3000 years…How do they deal with bullies in Congress?
I mean, obvious schoolyard-bullies like Greene, of course.
Do they not have some sort of Occupation Health and Safety laws that apply to congress? Coz that's a hostile work environment for sure.
Let's not make comments about murdering people, even jokey ones. Especially not ones based on torture movies.
Come on, guys. Have some class.
Optimism is a duty.Who is even talking about that?!
I'm just asking if they can legally enforce a punishment for this kind of behavior in congress.
Since this is clearly a violation of the law of some sort.
(Unless you mean the original poster of that piece of news, then sure, you are right about that one.)

Or even just the rules, if not the law. Of course, she's been stripped of her committees and i don't think we neve the numbers to expel her, so what else is there?

Maybe she could take a page from Ted Cruz's playbook and fuck off to Cancun.
So, uh, the 25th Amendment is the Trope of The Day today. Did something happen yesterday/today to justify that? Or was it just a roulette thing?
I can't say goodbye to yesterday…I think it was a roulette thing.
"I usually specialize in Dragon-types, but now I'm a fairy and specialize in Fairy-types. See the irony?" - IrisI originally posted this question in the Religion thread but Marquis thought it'd be more appropriate here, so....
Can anyone tell me why some Christians think the Biden/Harris administration is "turning the country away from God"? Is it just the abortion and LBGTQ rights that are the sticking points? I must confess I'm not understanding that line of thinking, unless there's some "anti-Christian" legislation I'm not aware of.
It’s literally just acknowledging ways of life not their specific brand of Christian Fundamentalism exist and that laws should not cater to the religious beliefs of fundies and only fundies.
i. hear. a. sound. It's an easy way for Conservatives to manipulate their religious base, which remains immensely influential but easily manipulated.
That claim is most likely coming from people who doesn't actually know what Christianity really is about.
Delusional people, nothing else.

It’s the general move away from the specific sub-set of Christian belief that involves hating LGBT people, embracing white nationalism, supporting the ultra-wealthy and limiting women’s rights.
There’s a strain of Christianity in the US that considers being a Republican the way to be a good Christian. Biden and Harris are Democrats, so them being elected is automatically a rejections of Christianity for these people.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranOh, Christians always think Democrats are turning the country away from god. It just means they don't like abortion and LGBT rights. Don't pay attention to them.
Optimism is a duty.I wonder if there is a term for that strain more specific than "Evangelicals" or "Fundamentalists"?

I guess we are not hearing enough from those other Christians.
Optimism is a duty.specifically evangelical Christians, its important note they dont speak for the whole of Christianity

New theme music also a boxYou'd really think that the "rational" Christians would be making more of a fuss about fundamentalists and evangelicals claiming to stand for them. #NotAllChristians

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Does Biden vocally defend things like abortion, in relation to being a Christian? I think that's the important part in this instance.
Optimism is a duty.I mean, you've immediately moved the goalposts from "all Christians think Democrats are bad", and I think the administration's policies should answer that question, so whatever.

Greene verbally attacked the transgender daughter of a fellow congresswoman, and hung an anti-trans sign outside said congresswoman's office.
Can we make this nutjob Jigsaw's next target to put into a death trap?
