Nov 2023 Mod notice:
There may be other, more specific, threads about some aspects of US politics, but this one tends to act as a hub for all sorts of related news and information, so it's usually one of the busiest OTC threads.
If you're new to OTC, it's worth reading the Introduction to On-Topic Conversations and the On-Topic Conversations debate guidelines before posting here.
Rumor-based, fear-mongering and/or inflammatory statements that damage the quality of the thread will be thumped. Off-topic posts will also be thumped. Repeat offenders may be suspended.
If time spent moderating this thread remains a distraction from moderation of the wiki itself, the thread will need to be locked. We want to avoid that, so please follow the forum rules when posting here.
In line with the general forum rules, 'gravedancing' is prohibited here. If you're celebrating someone's death or hoping that they die, your post will get thumped. This rule applies regardless of what the person you're discussing has said or done.

Gave this Normal 1 guy the boot. People complaining about other people dismissing them have no business ranting off without evidence.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI can tell you're upset, and assuming you're arguing in good faith... well, I'm afraid that's just not how things look from where I stand. Dehumanization targeted at people of color, women, and other minorities is ingrained because it's part of what the US was built upon - literally built on the backs of slaves, for one thing, and on the sacred lands and over the corpses of native people.
I'll also second what Euodiachloris said. Coming in swinging and threatening violence isn't going to help you or anyone, it's just going to get you thumped. I myself don't have the time, energy, or qualifications to lay everything out in as much detail as it should be laid out, but if you're here to ask in good faith, maybe stick around and lurk a while. You might find your answer or you might not, but it's probably better than ranting.
^Oh. Whoops.

It's been fun. They aren't complaining about "ideological purity". They're prioritizing holding on to the seat majority they just won in 2018.
The one that involved a lot of "moderate" Democratic candidates flipping traditionally Red districts.
Honestly, the media is exaggerating the internal disagreements and debates within the Democratic Party. Probably because people eat up that kind of narrative.

Rightwing militia groups. As disgusting and predictable as ever.
And wait for this administration to bend over backwards defending them.

Disgusted, but not surprisedIn a Hispanic majority state that literally has Mexico in it's name, and use to belong to the other Mexico...

By kidnapping innocent people. Sure. Okay.
Okay, I saw a whole load of thumped posts. What exactly were they going on about?
I hold the secrets of the machine. Some right-wing nut going on about Democrats dehumanizing them.

The worst part with that militia is that what they’re doing isn’t even really illegal in New Mexico. That state has very loose citizens arrest laws, because of course it does, so they can’t even be charged with false imprisonment.
They should have sent a poet.raising a militia should be automatic treason but for that annoying amendment that gives people the right to bear arms
-shakes head-
New theme music also a boxTrump should be happy, since his Complete and Total EXONERATION....
I guess not.
So guess who’s back, backs again!
Roy More is leading the Republican primary pack for the Alabama 2020 senate race.[1]
Now this is one poll and More seems to be costing on his high name recognition from being the candidate last time, still though...
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranMost states actually already have anti-militia laws. They’re just somewhat difficult to enforce.
They should have sent a poet. What the hell, Alabama.
i. hear. a. sound.NO!
This country...I shouldn't be surprised the Republicans are running the most abhorrent candidate that they could find, but somehow I still am. Disgusted, but still surprised?

The awful things he says and does are burned into our cultural consciousness like a CRT display left on the same picture too long. -FighteerI’ll just be over here screaming what the fuck, Jesus Christ. That’s fucking kidnapping at gunpoint.
To borrow from M84: disgusted, not surprised.
This is what Trump's been working on. This, not the wall, is the magnum opus of his Presidency. It's the reason he's barred the FBI from investigating right-wing extremism. It's why he chants hate rhetoric at all his rallies. It's why he continued holding campaign rallies even after he became President. This is the goal.
Trump's Presidency has a limited number of years, even if he wins re-election. He can't be President forever. But Grand Wizard of the Combined Right-Wing Extremist Militias of the United States? That doesn't have term limits.
Trump dreams of a world where he can say on Twitter, "We need to get these people." And then millions of private American citizens will grab their guns, go out, and get those people. While the law officers all happen to be looking the other way.
He's been building this role for himself as Mafia Don of Mob Rule for years, since as far back as when he suggested at a Trump rally that his people should shoot Hillary Clinton. We've just hit the point where they're starting to respond.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Mobsters also bear arms, they don't get to call it a Constitutional Right. This is a criminal conspiracy to commit very obvious, very public crimes. You want to join a "Well-Regulated Militia", that's what the State and National Guards are.
So guess who’s back, backs again!

Trump's age will catch up to him.
He needs a memento mori in the classical sense.
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. It is indeed true that the immense damage Trump has done to this nation and the globe will far outlive him.
This fact is small comfort.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.I think he's going to be the only person on whom a Damnatio Memoriae might seem acceptable.
Then again, probably not - because keeping memory of him and his regime would serve as a reminder to not do it again.
I hold the secrets of the machine.Joe Biden has a planned presidential announcement next week. I want to get out of my system the scenario in which voters shudder at Biden's misconduct and progressives stay home, giving Trump another term. Just so I can call it on the very slim chance it happens.
Life is unfair...
I'll agree that there's a degree of cultivated alienation, where people are encouraged to seek constant confirmation of their pre-existing beliefs and reject everything else as incorrect and, more importantly, immoral, with an extreme degree of moral granularity.
Whether this leads to blood depends on the types of sentiments that the thought leaders choose to encourage in their flocks. However, the Left in the US is remarkable in its censorship of any bloodthirst that might arise, even though issues involving abuse and exploitation of the poor and the underprivileged have frequent lethal consequences, both systemically and stochastically. Meanwhile, this is what the Right sound like.
I love the bit where she says the right are the ones with no power.
Tangentially, I'm surprised the "moderate" wing of the Democratic party is complaining about ideological purity, when I struggle to find anything "ideological" or "idealistic" or "pure" about "enact policies that help poor people not die" and "stop shitting on ethnic and sexual minorities for no reason". Maybe I'm so deep inside this rabbit hole I just see this as basic common sense?
