And the denial.

"Who cares?" Trump said when asked about the DNA test. When pressed on the once-promised $1 million payment, Trump responded: "I didn't say that. You better read it again."

It's not "important" compared to other things, but it's just more wood for the pyre that Trump is piling up under himself.

What happened to the blue wave? I thought democrats were supposed to absolutely sweep the republicans next month, but the polling I'm seeing is more and more uncertain.

538 is reporting a 9-10% polling lead on average, with 80%+ chances of the Democrats seizing the House. That's not accounting for local and state level races, where a lot of polling isn't done and news doesn't reach people outside of those areas unless you look.

“absolutely sweep” has never been a genuine prediction, it’s a possible outcome based on the democrats having solid numbers and a high likelihood of taking control of the house, all of which are still true.

I suspect that you’ve got some combination of having higher expectations than the data predicts and currently looking at polling data that is worse than the average and not representative of a full sample size.

That Painting of Trump Having a Diet Coke With Abraham Lincoln Is Now Hanging in the White House

President Donald Trump liked a painting of him having drinks with Abraham Lincoln, Richard Nixon and Teddy Roosevelt so much that he called the artist on the phone and then put a print of it in the White House.

Called “The Republican Club,” the print of 10 Republican presidents sitting around a table could be seen briefly in the background of Trump’s interview with “60 Minutes” Sunday, and an image of that moment went viral on social media.

I was looking at the picture before I read the article, and I was thinking that Trump's smile in the picture looks incredibly fake. It therefore interested me to read this part of the article:

But Thomas was proud that Trump had recognized the work he put into one of the toughest parts of the painting: the president’s smile.

He said he’s found that some presidents have a natural smile: Ronald Reagan, Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Barack Obama. But others, like Trump, have more of a forced campaign smile that doesn’t look right in a painting. He found it particularly hard to get Nixon right the first time he painted him.

To get Trump’s smile, Thomas said he looked at thousands of photos.

“Trump has that one thing where he sticks his chin up and smiles really big, and it’s great for a caricature but not necessarily flattering to him,” he said. “I had to find a photo where it looked like he’s actually heard something funny, so it looks like a genuine smile.”

The artist also said this about both this painting and its twin (he's done a 'Democratic Club' painting as well):

The addition of a crowd in the background also led Thomas, an independent-minded Midwesterner who’s a fan of both Reagan and Bill Clinton, to add a subtle feminist message: A woman with indistinct features walking directly toward the table.

The same woman also appears in a separate painting, “The Democratic Club,” that Thomas just finished.

“That will be the first Republican female president and the first Democratic female president,” he explained. “As I was doing the painting, I was thinking that these guys are kind of intimidating in a way. That’s the kind of woman that will be our first woman president; she’ll walk right up to that table.”

But Trump had to be Trump so this also happened:

As he often does, Trump then asked Thomas how he was doing as president and what his friends and neighbors think about him, as well as how he thinks the heated Senate race between Democratic Sen. Claire Mc Caskill and pro-Trump Republican Josh Hawley will end.

Thomas said he was a bit surprised at that turn in the conversation.

“I’m thinking, ‘I’m a damn artist, what is he asking me about this for?'” he recalled.

Pretty sure that Lincoln and Roosevelt would be filled with shame to be in the same painting as Trump and, being the kind of people they were, would probably beat the tan out of him.

Yes, I did feel there was a basic historical flaw with the two paintings in that some of the older presidents would actually be in the other painting to the one they're currently inhabiting precisely because of the political shift over time in the two parties.

Teddy especially would have hated it. Though they share in xenophobia, what with Theodore being a firm advocate of the White Man's Burden, he would despise Trump's attitudes towards the working-class.

Good point, especially as Roosevelt himself was the one to establish the National Parks service in general, and the (since-reduced by Trump & Co.) Bears' Ears monument specifically.

He and Gifford Pinchot actually created the National Forest Service. The NPS itself was established in 1916, under the Organic Act. (There’s a difference, as the Forest Serice focuses on Conservation aka wise use and sustainability, while the NPS focuses on Preservation, at least in theory. That distinction has blurred a bit over the years, but the general idea still holds true.)

He would still totally hate trump though.

For all of Roosevelts faults, I feel he'd find Trumps casual and deep seated dishonesty simply unbearable.

Afair, Teddy was also (for his time and societal standards) nearer to the liberal side of the Republicans, which does make one wonder how a Teddy Roosevelt would be if he grew up in our time..

In the election of 1912, the Bull-Moose Party was campaigning for a living wage for all industrial workers, 8 hour days, worker health and safety standards and regulation, workers’ right to unionize, women’s suffrage (a big deal in 1912), a social safety net, business regulations, and breaking up monopolies.

I mean, he and his Generation of reformers, quite literally defined the modern progressive agenda, that we’ve been building on ever since. I’m pretty sure modern republicans would hate him.

[up] that’s an interesting question. I’ll have to think about that a bit.

So, I've been reading Maus for an English class I have, and it's re-awakened my fury at the current state of affairs in American politics. Some of you may remember that I am Jewish, and my great-grandparents came to America to escape the Nazis. Sorry, but I just need to vent a bit.

RRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGHHH!!!!! WHY ARE NAZIS BACK?! WHY?! I HATE THEM SO MUCH AND I WANT ALL OF THEM TO DIE!! FUUUUUUUCK!!! FUCK ANYONE WHO SAYS THAT TRIPE "Oh, hatred is just you hating something about yourself you see in other people, you can't truly hate anyone unless you see something you hate about yourself in them". FUCK. THAT. NAZIS ARE EVIL, I HATE THEM, AND I WANT ALL OF THEM TO DIE!
