Is it possible for Yun Seong and Hwang to coexist in the same game?
No shut up SC 3 doesnt count
I have a feeling Rothion isn't playable and is just a special CAS character for a fight. Wouldn't be the first time SC did this.
"When I offered to make Norea my third back-up girlfriend she just glared at me and started throwing things at me.." Renee CostaStrikes me as weird either way, because isn't he a Non-Action Guy?
I liked him being effectively a stay-at-home-dad. It helped the setting and Sophitia's agency.
The sad, REAL American dichotomy
It can only end in blood with Hwang emerging victorious & finally marrying Seong Mina but not out of something absurd like love but bcuz Han Myong asked him tow. The end result is a an unhappy marriage that gives to an unwanted & unloved child that a sets such a new low standard that puts even Patroklos to shame.
So that's why Yunsung & Hwang needs to be in the game
Thats seems to be general consensus last page.
Are you implying that all non-action men belong in the kitchen!? That's sexist!

I don't mind Rothion being a Non-Action Guy, but I'd like to, y'know, actually see him every once in a while instead of being a walking plot device for Sophitia to become a mom.
For Those who Seek the Thrill of Death: A Dramatic SMT3 Hard PlaythroughThat first aborted treatment of Soul Calibur as a film (back when Sammo Hung was set to direct and Jackie Chan set to star in the early 2000's) focused on Hwang, Seung-Mina, and Yun-Seong IIRC. Funny how what could have been the faces of the story have pretty much been cast to the side. Well, besides Mina.
What could Hwang contribute that Yun-Seong couldn't?

His name sounds more like an onomatopoeia.
Or they could just have both. Not really seeing why that can't be a thing.
If there's anything that makes me happy about Talim's inclusion is that she doesn't have a loli design.

On the Hwang vs Yun Seong debate, they never really fought the same way. In Edge, Hwang used a Jian and a moveset that was actually usurped by Xianghua. In SC 1 he adopted a Dao, but he and Xianghua were still partial clones, much like Lizardman and Sophitia, Kilik and Seong Mina, Rock and Astaroth, or Maxi and Li Long. He wasn't in SC 2, and when he returned as a bonus character in SCIII, he had a completely unique moveset that was expanded upon in the Arcade Edition when he, Li Long and Amy were made core members of the cast.
The idea is that there's really no reason that Hwang and Yun Seong can't coexist, especially in such a counterpart-heavy series as Soul Calibur.
the color todayAfter much debating with Chris X, I think I came to the realization I am only trying to find a reason to not accept Talim into the game, even after Okubo confirmed the events of SCII would be covered.
Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...
Well that sums it up for me.
Technically Hwang was in SC 2 but that was Assassin

Wait if 2-4 are all in the same year, and they introduce the other sc3 cast....
Setsuka, Tira, Olcadan, Dampierre, Hilda, Abyss, Algol, & Night Terror confirm you say!?
I could see Setsuka and Tira being playable.
"When I offered to make Norea my third back-up girlfriend she just glared at me and started throwing things at me.." Renee CostaI mean, we're definitely getting at least one DLC character and likely more. Wouldn't be surprised if, like, Algol and maybe the bonus characters from 3 are DLC or something.
For Those who Seek the Thrill of Death: A Dramatic SMT3 Hard PlaythroughTira has her fingers too far into the lore to be absent, especially since the evil seed was the reason she was able to get her independence and personality. olcadan met up with edge master like once off screen. Setsuka is flat out irrelvant to the plot. She's after mitsurugi and... thats about it. Abyss is something im not even sure if its canon since 4 kicks off after nightmare and Seigfried clash in the church. Algol is probably in unless they entirely rewrite the lore of the swords creation, or they deem him too far down in the plot to use yet. Night terror is also (currently) non canon, but would be a cool superboss. Hilda again depends on how far we are going, she only began being active in IV, but the evil seed did turn her father into a loon iirc. Dampierre is... Dampierre. It honestly doesnt matter where he comes in. Is he even canon? he's been DLC for all his appearances and he didnt even age during the time skip.

I disliked Setsuka at first, but she grew on me in her absence. An alternate take on history might give her more to do.
Talim's voice quotes in the trailer suggest she's moving back to the determination of her SCII incarnation.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyI like Setsuka because she's a super-hot stabby blonde
Weird, how she was brunette 1st.
Tira: Probably going to be in the game regardless
Setsuka: She trained Patroklos if that's supposed mean anything. Probably not
Abyss: I wonder what it says about the character when his weapon make it in but not the demon himself.
Algol: Too important to be cut out at this point.
Night Terror: I thought Night Terror was a separate entity from Nightmare? To the point that even Algol rather avoid fighting it because how powerful it is.
Hilda: SC IV (IIRC) barely has a timeskip between 2 to 4. IIRC, only months has past during timeline in SC 2 to SC 4. So there's no real reason she can't be in the game because of that.
Dampierre: He sold Pyrrha to slavery if that's supposed mean anything. Probably not
Tira: Won't be there. Damn, she was on V. SCIII won't be covered with VI if Okubo's word is anything to go by, and she only started to have an active role by that game.
Setsuka: She indeed trained Patroklos. Then again, if Okubo's smart, things will go Mortal Kombat '11 from VI. That said, I'd love to see her hunt starting a bit sooner.
Abyss: Needs the Soul Embrace, a direct result of SCII's events, to exist.
Night Terror: It's actually what Nightmare is should all pieces of the Soul Edge be gathered.
Algol: Awoken by Siegfried and Nightmare's clash in SCIII. The plot needs to go far enough for him to appear, as with the other bosses.
Hilde: Who knows, you are actually right on that one, she has no reason to not appear at any point between SCI and SCIV.
Dampierre: No one will miss that guy.

Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...- Amy: Possible, as DLC considering Talim's in
- Tira: Probably in
- Setsuka: I hope she's in
- Abyss: No point
- Night Terror: I really hope so. Soul Edge's true form.
- Hilde: Probably in
- Algol: Sequel Hook, probably not
- Dampierre: Likely Season Pass exclusive.
Still waiting on Hwang.
He better not be another CAS again
