Once again I still don’t get the problem. That’s not really much of an atypical opening.

Seeing Aquaman dealing with Black Manta like an underwater Boogeyman is a pretty good Establishing Character Moment for the former in that case.

Again that’s not abrupt.

Especially since he winds up being integral to the plot. He has to be introduced there.

Matt Reeves' Batman movie is starting production on January 13th, 2020.

When should we expect to see those publicity shots of Pattinson in the Batsuit?

[up]I admit I don't care much. Nothing against Pattison mind you, I'm sure he can make a good Batman. But I am just not interested in yet another Batman movie. Wake me up when they finally decide to give Superman another shot.

I'm only excited due to Matt Reeves. He's shown himself to be an excellent filmmaker.

Not sure if this was talked about, but during SDCC, people are spotting physical ads for the Snyder Cut hashtag.

...I mean. I liked the theatrical cut, but now I'm starting to wonder if we should see that Snyder Cut after all?

Jesus Christ that's a misleading statement.

They're not seeing ads for the Snyder cut, they're seeing ads for the hashtag #Release The Snyder Cut.

The former implies that the cut A: exists and B: is going to be released. The latter implies people are stupid.

This whole movement is so ridiculous.

Why can't they understand it doesn't exist. Not in a completed state anyway.

At most you'd get a rough cut with whatever finished effects that match and storyboards/animatics to fill in all the incomplete elements.

They are NEVER going to sink more money into this thing without guarantee they'll get profit from the effort.

Even if sales are great, I doubt the amount of money they can get from people still championing for Snyder offsets the cost they have to sink in to complete it.

Not to mention how the act would probably risk undermining what little they have going for them at the moment.

Bump.

Apparently while promoting The Witcher at SDCC, Henry Cavill got asked if he was done as Superman.

This was his response.

Now nobody's sure what it means...

I really do hope they make another Superman film, this time with a better writer and director. And if they want to make it the last Superman film for the DCEU, hell, make an adaptation of All-Star Superman.

Maybe they could try to adapt Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?, since that never been adapted to another medium before.

Or you could have Bearded Idiot: At Earth's End, if you want to go really silly with it.

They could, but that story is really about the end of the Silver Age Superman and a celebration of everything he was. It's also tragic as all get out, but all of that comes from characters that aren't a part of the DCEU — there's no modern day versions of Pete Ross and Lana Lang, there's no Jimmy Olsen anymore (Snyder shot him in the head), there's no Krypto, no Bizarro, there's no Supergirl. Hell, there's no Mister Mxyzptlk, so the villain would pretty much come out of nowhere.

Pretty much all those finales would be after a long career as the world's greatest hero. It would take a lot more than the troubled history Superman's had on the DCEU.

Wake me up at your own risk.

Hmm. You know, an interesting story to adapt would be "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, & the American Way?" It would be a neat commentary on DC's previous violent films.

I think from "classic" Superman stories, the way forward I'd suggest would be a a take on Superman vs. the Elite, yeah, since as alliterator pointed out it fits well as a commentary on the status of the DCEU beforehand.

Have this new resurrected Supes strive to be the symbol of hope of the world now that he's back, but being countered by the influence of the darker superheroes borne out of the previous crisis who think he has no role in this world and butt heads with him over it until eventually coming to blows with him about it. Basically, Zackchester Black is the antagonist.

My other, more wild and out-there suggestion, would be For the Man Who Has Everything.

For The Man Who Has Everything could work as a story about this Superman rebuilding his life after the upheaval of Bv S and JL, film starts with him hearing a spaceship approaching Earth, in which lies Mongul. They have a stiff fight, and at one point Mongul throws the Black Mercy at him, Supes briefly blacks out but continues fighting and vanquishes Mongul. He comes back home to be happy with Lois, get his job in the Daily Planet, handle the other heroes, e.t.c, he's just glad he's alive. Suddenly a meteor approaches Earth, Supes goes to stop it and it turns out it is a colony of Kryptonians who rebuilt their planet and Supes. Not only that but his parents are alive and Superman can't quite believe this. So we get a movie of him interacting with Krypton in a pretty idyllic life but over the course of the film he starts to notice this is too good to be true and a bit off, something punctuated by the odd distorted figures reminiscent of Wonder Woman, Flash and Batman that keep attacking him. So over the course of the film he starts Pulling the Thread on the internal inconsistencies of his own reality and realizing what he's living in is not actually real over the course of the movie, until the climax in which he realizes A) he's in a illusion and that the brief blackout when Mongul threw the Black Mercy at him was the illusion taking hold B) the odd distorted figures were Batman, WW and Flash trying to wake him up. So he wakes up and goes to fight Mongul, trapping him in the Black Mercy himself. Film ends on a bittersweet note of him wishing he could have had Krypton but accepting that the people he cares about are on Earth, yada yada.

But that'd be some wild shit.

So, considering this movie was not delayed despite production troubles was because Executives wanted their bonuses because said bonuses are related to competent management or something, does the failure of this movie mean Executives did not get their bonuses?

No, they still got their bonuses.

At this point, with a mish-mash of behind the scenes ideas and just months until the planned Justice League release date, many executives thought postponing the film was the right move. However, Emmerich and Tsujihara apparently “wanted to preserve their bonuses they would be paid before the merger.” The fear was that if Justice League came out in 2018, the AT&T/WB merger may have forced Emmerich and Tsujihara out of the studio by the end of the year, meaning they wouldn’t get bonuses.
They got their bonuses despite the movie flopping. Also, the deadline for the merger was postponed anyway, making the entire thing moot.

I'm confused, what part of that article states that they got their bonuses? From what i can tell they only get the bonuses IF they make good decisions, and the article ends with it stating, it would be hard to believe that Executives got their bonuses for a flop.

Next thing we'll learn is that he'll have a black costume!

On the subject of very obvious reveals, Darkseid and the Female Furies are confirmed for the New Gods movie.

[up]Well, dah! I sure hope so. Doing a movie about the New Gods without Darkseid is like making a X-Men movie without Magneto or a Batman series without the Joker; theorically it's feasable, but that doesn't mean you should.

At this point some people would kill for a X-Men movie without Mags, and he isn't needed for one anyway. Beware the Batman did just that, and a few issues aside, it was considered pretty good.

So in both cases they probably should.
