Don't know where else to post this but...
I don't know how much of you guys know this, but Twisted Pixel recently went from being a part of Microsoft to being an indie game studio.
Which makes me think:
How come Rare can't do what TP did and go indie?
I'm sure people would die to play Banjo-Kazooie or Conker's Bad Fur Day on the Wii U. And it's not like Microsoft's doing anything with them, right? (Ok, there's Killer Instinct for the Xbox One, but Rare isn't even involved with what goes on in that game, are they?)
Well, Rare is, atm, working on Sea of Thieves, which is apparently something of a dream game for them.
So there's that.
Also, there's no real indication that they want to leave. A huge part of the team left right after/during the buyout, but there's no sign that the rest of them hate being there.
Didn't the YMMV page for Rare tropes page for Rare say something about how they complained that they're not doing as many games with Microsoft as they did with Nintendo in the Executive Meddling entry?
Plus, I can't stop imagining how Conker's Bad Fur Day would look on the Wii U. And how they could improve on it by combining elements from the N64 version and the Xbox OG version by:
- Having uncut dialogue like the N64 version.
- Being freaking amazing to look at.
- Having the ability to choose between Conker's clothes from the N64 version or his clothes from the Xbox version. (Tell me I'm not the only one who liked his change of wardrobe.)
- An online mode that's significantly better than on the Xbox version. (Did anyone complain about the online mode there?)
- And retooling the ending so that you can either have the original ending or a newer, less suckier ending. (I cannot be the only one who hates that ending.)
I even came up with a title for it. How does Conker: Bigger and Shinier sound?

I mean... it doesn't have all that, but it does look pretty great in the Rare Replay collection.
And let's be real here: if it were up to Nintendo, it'd cost 20-30 bucks on its own, and have exactly none of that
- shakes fist at Virtual Console*
Really? $20-30?
I mean, there's exaggerating the price a bit and then there's this.
Comedic hyperbole is a thing

Maybe I should clarify, when I said "Conker's Bad Fur Day on Wii U", I meant do a new version with a new name, like how they remade it for Xbox and called it Conker: Live and Reloaded, albeit on the Wii U, hence the proposed title of Conker: Bigger and Shinier.
Oh.
Yeah, there's no way in hell that would get made. Wii U doesn't have the base to make that in any way a profitable venture.
Eh?
Then how did stuff like Bayonetta 2 happen?
Nintendo was willing to publish the game, so Platinum took their offer.
Bayonetta 1 must've done well enough that Nintendo saw the potential in having an exclusive sequel.
I don't think Conker's Bad Fur Day has ever done especially well, and the market for it was never that big to begin with. A full remake would not be a good investment.

Microsoft to stop reporting/tracking Xbox console sales.
Huh, that sounds like a bad sign to me, like the first step to Xbox being discontinued or something
Considering how much the Xbox services are integrated into Windows 10, I wouldn't be surprised if Xbox THE SERVICE became the main focus for the Xbox division with the Xbox hardware simply being "another Windows 10 device", abit one with a strong TV/couch oriented nature.
I'd make sense considering how Microsoft is focusing far more on services and software platforms with whatever hardware they do make being unproven and "new" ideas (Surface, Holo Lens, Kinect, etc)

Yeah. I'd say the future of the Xbox is as an HTPC with a couch-focused interface, rather than as a console.
Hey, something I've been wanting to ask regarding Xbox and Microsoft in general.
You guys ever wonder why stuff from Microsoft doesn't sell like hot cakes in Japan?
No, I don't wonder. It's not a Japanese company, and the Japanese are extremely provincial. End of story.
They want JRPGs, for instance. RPGs like Mass Effect sell nothing.
That's the public. Japanese developers love games like Mass Effect and Halo.

the Japanese are extremely provincial.
That...almost sounds rascist. Almost. Sort of.

Not racist, just true. Ask anyone who covers Japanese gaming.
There are tons of stories about the old guard in Nintendo who actively blocked the stuff the new devs wanted to do.
There's a reason that Nintendo has lagged badly in terms of online gaming. And why Iwata was so revolutionary in 2005.

I dunno if "provincial" is the right word, but they show a stronger general preference for locally-produced media with locally-produced tropes than most other modern cultures, probably stemming from the xenophobia. That's got a lot to do with it.

It would also explain why Nintendo and Sony generally have better sales than Microsoft there in terms of consoles.
" a stronger general preference for locally-produced media with locally-produced trope"
Er, that's the definition of provincial.
Eh, that's got broader connotations IMO.
The new dashboard is broken, huh?
You mean the new dashboard only available to select members in the preview program?
Welcome to pre-release software.
Anyway, still not in, but the speed boost has already got me calling "worth it."
