That should be a less rare thought...

It usually means good things for argument quota.

It's more like, instead of just not liking the game I appreciate the craftwork that went into it, but just not being able to really enjoy it.

I don't know, I don't think I'm as much of a Sonic fan as I used to be.

I echo similar thoughts on Mania. I dunno, I play stuff I don't have fun with because it has bits and pieces of brilliance all the time. Like I'll be playing Gears of War and be thinking "Damn, the monster design and weaponry in this is so well done! All the creatures are awesomely frightening and well realized! I sure wish I was fighting them in a better game."

Wish that mindset was more common, honestly.

Ow, man. I understand... and I just started to become a truer Sonic fan through the cartoon series...

I'm interested in playing any game of this franchise, though. Where should I start? What should I play? I am interested in hearing your reccomendations. I do stress to note, though, that I only have phone and PC at home. No, no console of any kind. Sorry...sad they're too expensive... Also, I don't have a smart TV... again, too expensive...

[up]Sonic Generations is available on PC. It's probably the easiest to recommend, and if you like that game you can download mod packs so you can keep playing new content without having to buy another game for a while.

[up]And by saying "Smart TV" I mean a TV that lets you play video games, connect your phone in, watch Netflix or anything similar to Netflix etc. etc.

Do the lines "So there is where Eggman built Infinite. It's so sad. What a lonely place to be brought into the world." make sense or am I missing something? I've heard others cite them as accidental leftovers and proof that Infinite was originally an Artificial Human (well, jackal).

Or...it's just Amy assuming he was made.

But who knows, maybe he has 2 backstories.

At this point Infinite's backstory is so convoluted as to be irrelevant.

And it was profoundly stupid anyway.

If you ignore the DLC, Tails and Amy's statements here doesn't contradict anything else in the game

Which leads me to believe that the original backstory WAS that Infinite was artificially created, and that they changed their minds decently late into development. No proof on that, though.

[up] Could had been something that they had in mind in early development?

It's likely. I get a feeling a lot of stuff in Sonic Forces was just built separately with different initial ideas in mind and then just hacked together at the last minute because they were running out of time.

[up] x10 — Sonic 1, Sonic 2, and Sonic CD are all available on iOS and Android, can't go wrong with those. They're free to play with ads, but it's only $2 to go ad-free for each of them, which I highly recommend since the ads are absurdly frequent (literally every time you pause).

CD is also available on Steam.

If your going to play any of the Adventure games on Steam please use an actual controller because playing them using a keyboard is abysmal.

Mania's great. A lot of fans say Colors is one of the best modern titles.

How much you love Mania depends on how much you like 2D Sonic gameplay, which there are surprisingly a lot of people who prefer the 3D titles...

I'm the kind of guy who only plays games one time unless they're really good, so I want to see everything the game has to offer in one playthrough.

2D Sonic games are heavily skill based. You're supposed to play them over and over until you GIT GUD and master the whole game, so I'm at a dichotomy where I try to do everything there is without the necessary practice to find all the secret rings and clear the Special Stages.

Thanks for the tips, too!

Frankly, 3D, 2D, I don't really care the medium, just make it work in all areas possible and make it enjoyable!

I don't think you need to master the game to get enjoyment out of Mania. There's definitely something to be said about learning a level's layout and hazards and circumventing all of them, but there's plenty to sink your teeth into and have fun with even if you're getting hit every 5 seconds. There's a decent chance you'll struggle with the game on your first go, but I doubt you'll begrudge it for it unless you absolutely cannot progress.

I haven't played Mania yet since my Switch needs updating, but it doesn't seem any harder than the previous 2D games.

People play Sonic differently. Some people like to get all the Emeralds but I never attempt at doing that. It's trouble enough to get through a level, nevermind getting enough rings and then beating the Special Stages. I could never beat Heroes because the Special Stages were required to get the final story.

Everybody plays Sonic for a different reason; some actually like the skill needed to beat some stages, while others just play it for the story or characters.

It's weird to me that I'm at the point where I like the Sonic cast more than the actual games. It's been months since I kept at it but I like what I read of the classic Archie series, and then there's the awesomeness of Sonic Mania Adventures.
