[up] (5) I was about to make a new thread but HOOOOOOLEEEEEY FUUUUUUUUUUUU-

I mean unfortunately it's not a full-on remake but, still, whatever Capcom is on they need to stay on it.

Maybe it's just me, but... I dunno, but as I grew up, I feel rather... irked with how Onimusha was like 'make the majority of major Sengoku period figures to be Card-Carrying Villain', and playing it as straight as possible for a complete Black-and-White Morality and expecting us to take it as a serious story... In particular, the whole Demon King Nobunaga. It felt like a super-outdated practice if you play it so goddamn straight (Sengoku Basara barely avoids this with their Nobunaga because the series itself IS some sort of Widget Series that you don't have to take their stories seriously).

So basically, as Onimusha celebrates its HD re-release, I was like "Are we seriously using this tired cliche of 'Nobunaga is totes eeeeevvvvviiiiilll demon, duuuude!'". Maybe it's because I've seen other series, and even rival company like Koei Tecmo, take either a more subdued portrayal that has both Nobunaga's good and bad traits (Nioh is a good example)... or outrageous ones like Fate/Grand Order. And speaking of Koei and FGO... am I glad to look at their portrayals of Yagyu Munenori. I swear, the Onimusha Munenori is just so off the history mark you'd swear it's some random evil schmuck.

The Genma themselves, Fortinbras included and especially, seems to be super one dimensional evil as well, no wonder the historical figures they touched seemed to inherit 'one dimensional evil'. Sheesh, I'm not quite sure who's to blame on this bastardization of historical figures in that way... The Genma and Fortinbras? Or Capcom?

Either way, I think as I grow up, I'm getting a bit... disillusioned with Onimusha. I'm pretty sure the gameplay would still be solid, Dawn of Dreams was seriously slick in gameplay. But storytelling... urgh... doesn't look like it aged nicely.

Meh, it's not like Onimusha was known for some deep and nuanced blend of authenticity and supernatural. You're looking for the wrong game in my opinion, even when I played the games back then I decided to ignore any historical aspect because it's just window-dressing that serves the look of the game and nothing else.

Also, Nobonuga still remains an acceptable target. It's not like he was known for trying to be as peaceful as possible. He's no Hitler of course, but you'll be met with as much dismiss as asking for the former to have more portrayals like Downfall.

I don't know much about Nobunaga, but he seems to be an Acceptable Target for Japanese pop culture just as Hitler is to the Wolfenstein franchise. Nobunagun is another time where Nobunaga is this "badass one-dimensional warrior god" if not exactly bad to the bone, and it's not a depiction that seems uncommon.

Anyway, I forgot this was coming out and it seems to be on the Playstation store already. I might just have to pick it up to fight quarantine boredom.

Huh.

Neat. What's it about?

Since the Tekken one was decent fingers crossed for this.

Tweet said Musashi is involved so it would possibly take place as early as the Battle of Sekigahara. It wouldn't be that long after the fourth game and Hideyoshi died in that game so all there's left during the Sengoku period is that and the Osaka Campaign.

That being said, it's disputed whether he actually participated in it and it's not known what he did during Osaka so the Shimabara Rebellion could work but that's like way later in his life.

There's like multiple angles to work with if you're doing Musashi. Hell, they could do a whole arc involving Sasaki Kojiro if they choose to.

Burning love!
