Spider-Man General Discussion

Go To

This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.

  • Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
  • Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
  • Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread which covers them.

Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.

Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.

Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

     Original Thread OP
Since everyone likes talking about him. I know little about him(Ironically,I got nearly all I know about him from a Batman thread),but he's apparently important so I made this thread. Enjoy.

I was going through some back-issues and discovered the reporter April Maye was introduced in a very similar way to Gwen and she even looked and acted like early Gwen. Here she is arguing with MJ. https://fuckyeahspiderwife.tumblr.com/post/12529913124/peter-hold-on-april-ill-be-right-back-mary

So how does Doc Ock expect to beat Spider-Norman as a middle aged fat guy? I can sort of buy the whole ruthlessness angle. Also it's interesting to point out that that Norman refers to the ending of the original Superior, as destroying YOUR consciousness referring to Otto deleting himself, and never calls Superior a fake or a clone. So i guess the Otto we are following really is the original Otto.

It did, actually: Gunn was fired on July 2018 and rehired March 2019, so that lasted eight months. The Sony Spider-Man thing only lasted, like, three months.

Actually, the split was reported on August and was just amended this month.

In other words, the Sony situation only lasted a month, not three.

[up] This whole situation was honestly just bizarre. I’m not sure what either of them actually got out of it (beside bad publicity), and the whole thing is surrounded in so much speculation and rumor it’s nearly impossible to figure out what actually happened.

They both made themselves look like petty, selfish assholes. I hope they learn a lesson but given how corporations are I'm not holding my breath.

So anyway, here’s a sneak peak of the pencils for The Amazing Mary Jane.

I’m just so excited for this book!

Also I read in the editors note of #2 of the Miles Morales Absolute Carnage tie in, that ASM #30 (#831) had several Call-Backs to ASM #105, the issue where both Flash and Harry where reintroduced.

And can we talk about what Kindred says to Osborn?

I could kill you right now, you know.

I could laugh while you screamed and cried. That’s what you always used to do, isn’t it? You were always so terrifying. Always made me feel powerless, whether the mask was on or not. That laugh....

...Yes you were terrifying back then. But no one was more afraid of you than he was. when I fashioned myself into...this, I thought about this often. Because I wanted to be the thing he saw in his nightmares— and his nightmares are so full of you.

...that’s what made you so much more terrifying than all the others. The end of innocence made flesh. Each time he sees you, all I can remember is how he thought he’d have a good life.

the name "kindred" gives me the impression it's someone close to Peter who went through similar experiences ("a kindred spirit"). could be a number of people, but the list seems to be slowly narrowing...

Just caught up with Felicia's solo run. Two thoughts:

  • So Felicia's bad luck powers make her now immune to magical spells meant to harm her? At first I wondered how Dr Strange was then able to remove her powers before but I guess he got around the rule since he wasn't trying to harm her but undo her hex on Peter.

  • MJ needs to find out that Felicia once used the alias, Francesca Featherbottom.

So an updated list of who Kindred could be.

  • another (possibly Pre-OMD) version of Peter
  • Villainous Failure Manchild Peter
  • The Corpse of (the original) Doc Ock that died when Otto and Peter switched Bodies
  • Harry Osborne
  • Ned Leeds
  • Gwen Stacey

I'm going to take a wild guess and say we can eliminate Ned Leeds, since he never really had a connection to Norman.

[up][up] There was this mini series, the Supernaturals, set in a universe in which all heroes except the magical based ones got whipped out. Much to my surprise, Black Cat was one of the heroes that got to be part of it, so there's a precedent that her powers have a certain magical aspect about it.

Come to think about it, the idea of "altering probability" is considered magical withing the MU. That was the original idea of Scarlet Witch's powers before they went full magic with her.

Flash died relatively recently though, so would they bring him back this soon?

It's probably not Flash.

It could be Harry Osborn. We know that Harry Osborn came back to life post-OMD, but did they ever tell us how? Or was it just "it's magic! we don't have to explain it!" In which case, perhaps this is the pre-OMD Harry, the one that died.

If Kindred is the demon that resurrected Quentin a decade ago, he obviously can't be Flash.

[up]x4 I mean his body is suspiciously absent as a plot point in the ongoing Carnage event even though the corpses of people who wore symbiotes are being harvested.

Of course I just miss the big lug so maybe I just wanna see him be referenced somewhere.

Pretty good day to be a Renew Your Vows fan

Marvel#1001 features a short story with the Spider-Fam arguing over what codename to give Annie, and Spider-Verse#1 reveals Annie repaired the web of life and destiny...but now she's gone missing and finding her is the objective of the book for Miles and the new character Spider-Zero (a female and black like Miles)

[up] The new Spider-Verse looks kinda fun. It's a bit ham fisted, but going with the Movie idea of "Everyone can be Spider-Man" was the right call.

I also like how they are embracing the the use of art shifts between the different universes, which is a nice twist from the other two Spider-Verse events.

[up][up] It is a bit weird that Spider-Zero won't consider recruiting any version of Peter Parker, 616 Pete has the experiance, MC 2 Peter is The Other, and RYV Peter is Annie's own father
