This thread's for the Spider-Man comics and spin-offs, whether they're decades old or brand new.
- Apart from the main Marvel Universe titles, Ultimate Spider-Man, Spider-Man "What If?" stories, crossovers, guest appearances in other books, Alternate Universe tales and things like Marvel's manga adaptations are all on-topic here.
- Spider-Man 'family' books are on-topic (as are their own crossovers, guest appearances etc.) - e.g. Spider-Man 2099, Miles Morales, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Venom, Carnage, Black Cat, Red Goblin and Spider-Verse.
- Characters and comics that originated in Spider-Man but are no longer directly connected to the spider-franchise (e.g. Punisher, Silver Sable) are not on-topic, unless you're discussing historical connections and crossovers. If in doubt, check before you write a long post. If this isn't the right place, there's a more general Marvel Comics thread which covers them.
Technically, Marvel's Infinity Comics (and their predecessors, Infinite Comics) are webcomics, not comic books, but it's fine to talk about their Spider-Man stories here.
Discussions that are only about Spider-Man adaptations in other media (films, video games etc.) are off-topic, but discussing the differences between the adaptations and the original comics is fine - as long as spoilers for the adaptations are tagged.
Please follow the spoiler policy rules - tag spoilers for the latest issues, for any previews or content leaks, and for off-topic comics. When including spoiler tags, try to write so that tropers can make an informed decision before viewing them (e.g. which series and issue will they spoil?).

He's from the Learning to Crawl mini series set at the start of Spider-Man's career.
Clayton Cole.
I actually read those when it came out. He's a Dan Slott creation so he was retconned into always being part of the series but just off camera. Apparently, HE"S the villain that forced Spider-Man to realize he can tell jokes to beat villains and calm himself down during fights.

I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. To elaborate more, Clash is basically a nerdy outcast like Peter was in high school who became a fanboy of Spidey after seeing him wrestling Crusher Hogan, eventually making his own super-suit with sonic powers and trying to become a hero like Spider-Man, than a villain, all in the name of getting attention. He was introduced in a flashback story from the Slott run that established him as basically a Starter Villain that Peter fought in his very early days. He comes back later in the same run to help at Parker Industries, than kinda disappeared into Comic-Book Limbo along with most of Spidey's cast because Wells and Lowe only care about Jonah, Norman, and the Robertsons.
Ultimate Spider-Man#4
So yeah, Harry and Gwen don't have kids and are waiting 'till the world is liberated from the council to try. Harry brings up the "great power" speech when he learns Peter hasn't told his wife anything about being Spider-Man. Harry's told Gwen everything about himself and Peter. We learn MJ used to be a model then worked in crisis management and now she'll be heading up a P.R firm for Ben and Jameson's new online paper funded by Gwen and Harry
That's one way of bringing things together.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.I love that the great power speech is tied to conversation about the marriage, now you can't have one without the importance of the other
Traditionally, Uncle Ben's role is to give the big speech and then get killed. I'm wondering if both parts of that role are going in the same direction for the new Ultimate setting...
I don't think USM is in the business of doing anything 'traditionally', I fully expect Ben and Harry to be regulars for as long as the title is going, we're looking at a reverse Obi-Wan/Anakin more with Peter and Harry at best in that the Mentor will fall out with the student or grow resentful of the student as he surpasses him
Right now, the two both have something the other needs that can make their lives better if they push hard at it, which will better help inform the obvious tragedy Peter has the family, so Gwen can maybe bond with the kids and gain some experience and advise from MJ , and Harry has the confidence to trust in his wife and share all aspects of the real world with her
Jackpot/Black Cat
Sick buckets on standby, it's Pity time, as Paul and MJ get a moment of togetherness where they hold hands and Paul gets all sulky about his past, MJ says doing things for him and Felicia makes her job taking down the blackmailer easier
But WAIT Not only is Felicia actually working with the blackmailer that threatened Paul's life, the blackmailer is also Fel's love interest that we were introduced to last issue

At this point, how do we kill Paul without figuratively turning him into a Gwen?
Have him sacrifice himself?
The Protomen enhanced my life.no that's still too much like gwen
reveal he's a villain and black cat rips him in half
vertically
Apparently twitter is on fire because Paul uses some variation of the Nuremberg defence during his scene with MJ
Edited by Zarius on Apr 24th 2024 at 6:36:07 AM
Wait what what?
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."“Norenberg?” Do you mean Nuremberg, as in the trials of Nazi officials there? Or something else?

The pig of Hufflepuff pulsed like a large bullfrog. Dumbledore smiled at it, and placed his hand on its head: "You are Hagrid now."I think they mean the Nuremberg defense.
The Protomen enhanced my life. That's it. Ugh, me and my proof reading...
I've fixed my post.

Lemme guess, did Paul use the "Just following Orders" card?
Because that one is VERY controversial for a reason.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.By the looks of it...
Okay, I really hate discussing Paul and 616 Spider-Man in general, and as far as I'm concerned, it's a dead timeline to me ever since OMD and Green Goblin can just go murder the entire cast including MJ but I really have to raise the point of of just how bizarre a concept Paul regarding his backstory.
Like, he's just there to be an obstacle for Peter and MJ, but the whole "genocided his planet for his dad" is just so out there and bizarre even by comic book standards.
And for whatever reason, the writers and editors ARE THAT committed to keeping him around.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Only because they don't want to admit they're wrong for doing OMD and everything else that makes him suffer in the first place.

Even worse, Nick Lowe insists we're all just "misreading" Paul.
Uh, no, we're reading him correctly. And we very much don't like what the text presents to us, even regardless of the whole MJ situation. It seems like you're the one misreading the whole thing, Nick. Genocide is not sympathetic, especially when we already hate the guy as a bland romantic obstacle.
There is no possible reality where Paul is a well-appreciated character.
You probably should've realized this when there was unanimous cheering for the fake kids dying.

Disney100 Marathon | DreamWorks MarathonIt's genuinely hard to tell if they really think Paul is this amazing character, or it's all just trolling and they know how awful he is.
Making MJ support the complicit in genocide character seems like their way of turning readers against her.

Lowe really needs to accept that they aren't endearing Paul to the readers with the way they have been writing him.
"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"Honestly, I'm kind of impressed they are still keeping him around MJ after all these years. He gets to hang out with Black Cat and MJ, and the sheer "fuck you" to the audience kinda gets respect in a Cross the Line Twice sort of way.
Not enough to actually buy the comic with Jackpot, I think her costume is eye searing.

When he was introduced, he was a deliberate parody of Peter Parker who Spidey fought in high school. He eventually came back in the present and worked for Parker Industries, but I'm not sure what he did after that place shut down.
