The full list of Legendary Duelists Season 2. For anyone who thought Harpie's Feather Duster might be inserted in(which isn't illogical, anyway), it wasn't the case. It's not a bad list, I guess?

Garden Rose Dragon is supposed to Garden Rose Maiden, and Beacon of White is spelled wrong. Might be other typos, though.

It's still hilarious that there's a card called "Kaibaman".

If anyone's wanting more information on the plants that are the basis of the Traptrix monsters, a youtube channel I like, Animalogic, has recently started a subseries Floralogic, and that series has started with carnivorous plants. Here's their most recent episode.

[up][up]The URL though...

[up]It's rare that I hear the story or character referred to as "the Naked Emperor", so as soon as you did, my mind popped back to the opening cutscene of No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle. "Such blind arrogance! Like the Naked Emperor!"
That same cutscene also provided this gem: "When you see your bro in Hell, tell him: He's STILL. A DOUCHE!!!"

I’m severely disappointed Dark Honest is not named Dishonest.

[up] Blame ...well many things really

  • Around the time the original angle debuted Konami had decided to make several DARK counterparts of existing monsters, the most famous being Dark Armed Dragon.
  • When Archtypes were becoming prevalent, Upper Deck and Konami's localization of certain cards were causing issues as cards that were though to not be apart of an archetype the TCG were made into one in the OCG and some cards that werne't in the OCG had TCG names that misled players. Both caused some cards to be renamed to better match the OCG but not before "Slime Toad/Frog the Jam" being explicitly excluded every card from the Frog archtype and punted into Memetic Loser status. You might already be famialr with some of these given your expressed enthusiasm for Translation Trainwreckstongue
  • While its too early to tell, Konami's TCG branch might invoke Dub Name Change for this as while it makes sense to keep "Dark Honest" for futureproofing purposes in case of an eventual "Dark" archetype. the odds of that happening are rather slim if not impossible due to how common the word id in card names.

Blood Rose Dragon is awesome — doesn't miss timing and mega nukes the field and GY. I fully expect Synchro Spam decks to use it. Only issue is that it's a Level 10 and that seems pretty awkward to summon using Black Rose Dragon as material, though thankfully you can just use any Plant Synchro.

I still kind of wish the Rose archetype was more about plants than about Rose Dragons.

The archetype still supports Plant stuff, at least.

Honestly I cannot express how happy the existence of Blood Rose Dragon makes me. Black Rose Dragon is one of my favorite cards and Konami gave it a sweet upgrade.

Black Winged Dragon has a variant that isn’t the manga counterpart?

Because it has a unique design and it was one of the first easily accessible field nukes. Resolving the effect during games in high school was always satisfying.

Set some battle Traps. Maybe abuse a Special Summon.

My high school deck might have been garbage but it did have some backup plans in case I needed to throw down a Rose.

I kinda forgot about Black-Winged Dragon, but I also don't really like it to begin with because it shouldn't have existed in the first place anyway, who knows what actually happens behind the scene, but we know Rua is originally supposed to debut his dragon during DS arc, and Crow was initially not meant to be a prominent character throughout the entire series, and from that we can infer that he wasn't originally planned to have his own dragon. They even make Crow obtained his dragon in one of the weirdest coincidence ever lol

But I guess I can fix my statement and say AFD's the only one from what supposed to be the original 5, to not have an upgrade (with Power Tool having the unique case of his upgrade being his original form)

[up]Yeah, the episodes where Crow got his dragon was basically a filler in disguise. Even it effect only support the self-burn some Blackwings have and counter his opponent in those 2 episodes.

E.T technically is a Isekai movie

@ Stardust: Reasonably sure that's actually one of many urban legends about 5D's production; Animation Lead Time being what it is Crow becoming a main character being a last-minute decision doesn't work out timeline-wise. Word of God says that there being six Signers rather than five was a twist planned all along, and some of the video games back this up by showing the Heart birthmark long before it appeared in the series.

Takahashi drew concept art of the original final Signer and his dragon, a HUGE beefy sucker that sort of looks like a cross between Red Dragon Archfiend and Obelisk. The reason why these characters were dropped in favor of Crow and BWD, I don't know, and I'm not sure it's ever been publicly revealed.

the Heart mark, funnily enough, featured in the 2009 DS game that mimicked 5d's first season up to the fortune cup - lending credence to the idea a sixth signer was planned for a LONG time before it got actually included.

I think lua's late awakening is really just a case of bad planning. It could have happened against Demak, but for some reason they decided not, so it'd have to be until next time. Problem is, after the dark signers, they hit filler land for a good fifty episodes because movie production issues, not really a place to drop that, then when they got out of filler hell, it was WRGP time, which was explicitly built as Riding Duel Time, so it made little sense story-wise to make lua and rua relevant...

You get the picture. Overall, I'd say independent circumstances in the form of movie production and the natural shape of the story made it difficult to get lua his big moment after the initial plan was thrown out.

To the credit of whoever decided against making lua a signer during the demak fight, considering the fight was pretty clealry Ruka's to win, not a very memorable duel anyway, but still showcased some good grotwh for Lua, I don't see how they could have made Lua's ascension nearly as powerful and tide-turning as it was against Aporia, and that moment was worth it.

[up][up] Yeah, I'm actually not sure anymore what really happened behind the scene, it's just that I know Rua's supposed to debut as Signer during DS arc, exactly because of the game that featured the Heart Mark long before it shows up in anime.

But I also heard that Crow was originally meant to be just another good guy turned DS a la that killer whale DS, and that the one remaining Signer is originally someone else, the guy with beefy dragon that you mentioned. I saw the design too.

Based on how Ruka's dream originally shows LSD alongside the others, I'd say Rua is originally intended to be the fifth Signer, while the scrapped guy is meant to be the Sixth Ranger who comes just before the duel against Godwin (hence the Heart Mark being planned that early, since the guy also would have shown up in DS arc, meaning there would be six Signers in DS arc). But what we got was Crow not only replaced the guy, he also becomes the fifth, while Rua ends up as the sixth.

But like you said, the reason why the changes happened most likely will never be revealed at this point.

However, Mark-wise, considering how the Mark transferring happens in the duel against Godwin, I'd say Rua has always been intended since the start to have the Heart mark.

.

[up] Agree, Rua might have lost his Signer moment in DS arc, but the Signer moment he does get, was definitely a great replacement that's well worth the wait.
