So...does the Stranger come from an alternate timeline, then?

Wow, after the response to Season of the Worthy introducing a new Dungeon in the first day of the new season is one hell of a Win Back the Crowd. I figured there wouldn't be a new Raid or location, but didn't think of a dungeon.

The bad news: the devs are now going through with shelving parts of the game to return. The good news? They’re porting D1 material in.

Sounds like a bizarre play or inversion of Archive Panic, but maybe I am misidentifying it. If I had access to all the material in the vault, I would likely end up lost in an Archive Binge.

This season. This is where it gets interesting.

Well they do have a point. The bigger the game gets the harder it is to implement new stuff without breaking something else.

They made it clear it was going to be a rotation, so rather than outright eliminating content it would be more passive removal and reintroduction depending on the season. I suppose entire worlds would be the most memory heavy, but that's actual playspace to include new adventures, like how they used the Obelisks and Seraph Towers. Some are theorizing the Leviathan Raids would be dropped, but I'm thinking it may be select strikes and adventures that cause minimal questline issues.

Nope. We're losing Io, Mars, Mercury, Titan, and the Leviathan, and everything involving them. That includes campaign missions, I wager.

but HOW?

Bungie themselfs have clarified it does, all content related to them... as in every thing from patrol spaces to instanced missions is fgoing away.

Wow, that's more than just ripping the bandaid off, that's breaking up a three year relationship. Five locations removed, all of them vital to year one content. I did hear New Light doesn't start you from the beginning and generally behaves like your guardian was revived just before Shadowkeep, framing first year content as more of a history lesson of what happened, which may have been a precursor to this change. Of course, all those locations are smaller while Cosmodrome is massive (hard to imagine Europa would be any larger than Mars, probably closer to Titan), but if it includes the plaguelands that could be an indication of SIVA returning.

So far the content is looking significantly better than last season. Has a great opening level ( transmat into Io and see a Pyramid ship looming in the skybox, you are dragged toward the ship like the end of Shadowkeep but are pulled out of it midway by Savathun). It seems like the new public events are intended to be played for not just materials but also to access a weekly story questline like the Invitations of the Nine in Season of the Drifter, which I think will improve the pacing of the season.

In the livestream reveal, it's rather notable that Luke Smith took responsibility for the problems with this year, admitting it didn't work the way they wanted it to.

We do get some old D1 content ported at least. The only problem with that is I have a bad habit of going on an archive binge, so it becomes EVEN MORE FRUSTRATING!

I guess I’ll just watch it all on You Tube then...

All of the class gear looks really cool this season. Very scavenger-like.

[up]I thought that was Forsaken and the Drifter's gimmick?

The majority of Hunter armor already looks customized from random parts, hence how they often acquire Fashionable Asymmetry. But Forsaken and Drifter related stuff definitely has a Scavenger World motif to it. This season is not necessarily scavenger, but adapting advanced technology for your own use, kind of like putting Braytech gear on Gambit armor.

One of the new Exotic weapons this season is Ruinous Effigy, a Trace Rifle that turns defeated enemies into orbs of energy that you can grab and throw at even more enemies.

A few steps are involved in it's unlocking:

  • Complete Eris Morn’s weekly Interference quest
  • Next, collect the calcified fragments scattered throughout the solar system (it's those weird Taken eye things hidden in odd corners) and defeat enough of Savathûn’s Marionette Taken enemies
  • Then grind some rounds of Gambit or Reckoning, get Void kills, and score some precision multi-kills.

It's good that they're not rushing it out. Plus extended season is always a good thing.

Shadowkeep itself was delayed a week, so it's not like there isn't precedence. The quarantine cannot have helped matters, but given they only announced Beyond Light a month ago either they were anticipating this to be a problem even then or they found a major bug that's going to take that extra month to weed out.

Works for me. Better chances I'll actually make it to Season rank 100 then. Plus, this season's turning out to be a great way to catch up on your gear and shaders, or even find updated versions of fan-favorite guns that now follow the current gun module system.

The physical wall and platform creations you can interact with was unexpected. That will instigate a lot of out-of-bounds exploration. I was worried that ice-based powers might be redundant with void energy, which is already focused on slowing enemies and debuffing more than solar or arc, so there isn't much of a difference when it comes to freezing enemies with area-of-effect debuffs.

Am I the only one who utterly, completely HATES The Corrupted Strike in the Dreaming City? It's like everything in that particular strike was designed to infuriate players: lots of hazardous terrain, you get knocked around or off platforms all the time, the Strike boss and her minions tend to favor push-back attacks, the spheres you're supposed to throw tends to gravitate towards the minions instead of the bosses, and it's also the most platforming-heavy of all the strikes.

It's getting to the point that I'll ignore any assignments that require me to revisit that strike, no matter how good they are.

Oh if you hate it now try doing it at Nightfall levels to get Malfeasance. I've never completed it at that level myself.

If you're really into higher level content The Corrupted is a Dungeon-lite in terms of length and mechanics. That does give it a love/hate relationship with a lot of people, as one key mechanic with the orbs involves passing it to allies to charge it up and do 3-4x damage, which many casual players don't understand. People actually point to The Corrupted as to why you don't have built in matchmaking for Raids, Dungeons and higher level Nightfalls.
