I mean, I consider myself fortunate to have found and picked up an Ice Climbers amiibo figure in an actual shop a few days ago. I asked the assistants if there were any more coming in, and they basically said that they were shocked they even got that one.

You guys have been using your battle inventories for these 4* battles right?

Probably means the battle items that are available for the Spirit Board, e.g. "Weaken Minions" and "Slow FS Charging"

I fucking hate GSP so much. It has absolutely no value but it's a number that can go up and down so I base my sense of self worth on it.

You know I really wish there was an option to trade in SP for gold, I am seriously lacking in Gold right now and I have a bunch of SP I really don't need.

[up]x4 Ugh, I know, right?

My estimated GSP before I started playing online was way higher than it probably should’ve been, so watching it keep going down was painful.

Battle... inventories?

Not sure if it's sarcasm or not, but basically what Mile Run said. The battle inventories make the 4 star battle a lot more manageable.

I have a question:

What is your guys's/girls's preferred playstyle in this game?

In a far cry from the heydays of Smash 4, I actually now prefer items being on this time. And I usually play with hazards on.

(However, I am open to no items and no hazards. Though I always prefer the FS Meter on.)

[down] I have the same thing with a friend who prefers "1v1, no items, no hazards". And even that has irony with me as when Smash 4 was new, I had people who kept wanting to play with items on.

I usually play with hazards off. Some stages are kinda boring without them, but overall it’s worth it to avoid stuff like bosses and Flying Men. It’d be nice if it let you set the hazard switch for each stage individually, but I’m just glad it’s there at all.

I don’t mind items, but most of the people I play with don’t like them, so they’re usually off. When I do use them, it’s with the frequency on low and the most annoying ones filtered out. No Boss Galagas or Gust Bellows or anything like that. Smash Balls and summon items stay because they’re fun, though.

Also, 75mm is excluded from random stage selection because I absolutely hate it. There might be one or two others that I have turned off, but that’s the one I remember.

I'm okay playing both ways, but unlike most of my life, I think I prefer items on, hazards on right now. This is mostly because online is a bust for me (the connection quality is too inconsistent across lots of matches) and no one around me irl wants to play Smash with me regularly enough for me to want to improve too substantially (all my current best friends are online).

As a result, the few times I do get to play Smash, I'm just going to have a good time with the chaos that Smash was always built around.

For me:

  • Items off, except for assist trophies and pokeballs sometimes
  • Hazards either way, but on generally tame stages; not necessarily competitively legal stages (walk-offs and such are okay), but nothing as distracting as a stage boss or the Flying Men
  • Meter sometimes on
  • 3 stock/7 minutes

Outside of assist trophies and popup Pokemon, I feel like the items in this game are pretty boring. The only new item I find interesting is the Beastball, while the rest are either bland or just annoying (Ramblin' Evil Mushroom, Super Launch Star, Black Hole), and I'd already gotten tired of the older items in Smash 4. Everyone I play with locally happens to share my sentiments.

Occasionally we'll do special rulesets when we feel like mixing it up, like explosive items only or stamina mode matches. Here's another one we do once in a while when we have 3-5 players:

  • Items off except for S-Flag, Lightning, and Timer
  • Hazards on; random stages set to only large stages
  • 5-minute time battle
  • No hitting each other

Since I got into Smash I've always had all items on (though this time with the exception of Ramblin' Evil Mushroom because screw direction-reversing items), 3 stock, and generally with hazards on. Also, really gotten into Stage Morph so I like using that now (switching between 2 random stages. FS meter might be on or off depending on what I feel like.

A custom just-for-fun ruleset I tried playing was:

  • Only items are Assist Trophies and Pokeballs, set to high
  • Stages doesn't matter
  • No (purposeful) attacking each other, let the ATs and Pokémon do all the work

I miss the Cracker Launcher item from Brawl. My brother and I used to have matches on a custom stage in which only that item spawned, where we'd arc shots over a ridge in the middle at one another.

Since I always play Smash solo, my fights are usually 1 stock, hazards on, items on, with Stage Morph at random times.

When playing solo, it’s usually 1v1 with three stock and all items on. With a group it’s how ever many people want to play, with three stock and items off. Stage morph got turned on by accident once and that was super fun.

Ideal rule set for a group: three stock, stage morph on, with select items available.

Usually in a group, I play 5 minutes, unlimited stock, all items, stages, and hazards. Most of the people I know just want to goof around and have a good time, and they like when things get wacky with random hazards and the like. Also, since we have a wide range of skills among my friends, we play with unlimited stocks so that people don't get eliminated early and are stuck just watching.

I do randomized Smashdown against 3 or 4 CP Us at level 4, 2 stock, no time limit, no items or hazards. I swear the CPU AI changes depending on if the human player is still in or K Oed. I had CP Us do high level gameplay against me, but once its two of them, they stand there barely able to do a smash attack to each other.

My preferred rules for Quickplay are 3 Stock, 6:00 time limit, everything else at their default settings. For me, navigating through the chaos is part of the fun. Sure, sometimes you get KO'ed because of an unlucky break, but I'm not really a hardcore tournament player, so those things don't bother me that much.

And from further up the page, I've found Global Smash Power to be a bit inconsistent, too. My mains are Shulk, Palutena, and Pikachu, but the character I have the highest Quickplay GSP with is Yoshi, who I only did one or two online matches with so that I can someday say I've been online at least once with everybody.

I've fallen into a pattern with my Smash playing; I'm mainly doing Adventure Mode right now, but when I unlock a character in that, play around with them in Training, then I'll do their Classic Mode route, then Mob Smashes, a Time, Stock, and Stamina match against Lv. 9 CPU's, then a Quickplay battle or two with them before returning to Adventure Mode. My mains are in the mid 1 million-something Quickplay GSP range, while characters I've only played with a handful of times online are usually in the 2 million-something range. I'm assuming that might be the result of smaller sample sizes for my less-played characters.

The Living Guildpact rules that coffee is an acceptable substitution for rest as specified in subsection … whatever.

I usually just play items and hazards on, any stage, ect. for having fun in a party setting, but if someone challenges me for a demonstration of skill then it's obviously items and hazards off, 1-on-1, sometimes battlefield- or omega-only.

Have you all heard of the Ganondorf challenge? Basically, you take a Level 9 Ganondorf and you make him super strong, then you bash your head against the wall that is him trying to defeat him.

In Melee, this was done using Handicap, but in Ultimate, you can use Spirits to replicate it. Just slap a Level 99 Legendary Spirit on your AI opponent, and prepare to get bodied (you don't get a Spirit, obviously). One of my favorite variants is Meta Knight with a Galacta Knight Spirit.
