Skullgirls is an upcoming, incredibly pretty fighting game.

Seriously, it is quite pretty.

First official trailer, and some ancient loke test vids that link from there.

Apparently the head of the project is some god-tier Blaz Blue / Guilty Gear player, so hopefully we'll see some interesting shit gameplaywise.

His name is Mike Z, and he is a goddamn hero.

While I'm quite sick of all-girl cast fighters I'm still looking forward to how this game will turn out. I have faith Mike and crew will put something sweet. The gameplay shown so far looked really good.

Looks interesting. Sort of like Arcana Heart through a stylized Western filter.

Are there really that many of them? Other than Arcana Heart, Vanguard Princess, and the Touhou fighters, I can't think of much else  *

.

A friend of mine introduced this to me months ago  *

, and I've been interested since. Mostly due to the art style and the character designs. This is the first I've heard about it being designed by a high-level tournament player though, which only further piques my interest.

There are a lot of Doujin fighters with casts of all or mostly females, so it's a bit of a disappointment to see another Indy game that does the same thing.

Anyway, the art style is actually pretty unique (Almost like an Animesque comic book), and I can see a few nice touches put into the characters (For example, the Punny Name of Cerebella, or the reverse pie eyes of Peacock). The gameplay looks a bit standard, but I'm hoping there are some diverse touches, and we've only seen two characters in action so far.

Hmmmmmmmm, nah. Ever since my short stint with Tatsunoko vs Capcom, I decided that I don't like this genre. Too much arcane magic involved. I'll just stick with Smash Bros.

I like the character design, though.

Well the creators are probably all men, hence it makes sense that all the fighters are girls.

That said...so they all fight with their hair or something?

Something about the character's faces look kinda off though, but I can't figure out what. sad

The only two characters seen in gameplay so far are one who fights with her hair and one who uses a hat.

The other two characters seen don't seem to follow that.

Apparently, Mike Z has deep pockets or some insane connections, because he got Castlevania's lead composer to do the soundtrack for his game. That's like the Angry Birds guys getting Basiscape to make jingles for the next expansion. Amazing.

[up][up]Whoa really? That's awesome!

[up]She looks fantastic! The game looks incredible in motion, although the gameplay hmmm I'll have to see more of. It has a lot of potential though, should be entertaining at the very least.

Wouldn't Peacock's ranged normal attack be a bit...cheap? I mean, she'll be like Cyclops in X-men vs. Streetfighter.

Cool artsyle though...I wouldn't mind videos detailing all characters, since they all look like they were inspired by different things. Like...like...like...why is that giant arm girl named after a lower region of the brain in charge of motor controls?

[up]Not necessarily, they can find ways to balance it out. It didn't seem all that damaging from the vid.

Also, a vid on the animation process. Cerebella = <33333333333

I might get this game just because it looks so freaking beautiful.

You can so hear the Castlevania behind the music.

Seeing as I do enjoy the Castlevania soundtrack, that's a plus.

I do love how the characters are animated. The Slapsticks-style character especially looks really unique. I would like to see the other characters introduced (assuming those aren't the only characters, which I highly doubt).

I highly doubt it.

But yeah, Peacock looks amazing! I had my doubts about this game until I saw her gameplay.

Not necessarily, they can find ways to balance it out. It didn't seem all that damaging from the vid.

I meant just sticking in one corner and then spamming it. It didn't so much damage, but it certainly was fast.

So what the heck is Cerebella based on? Peacock? Old western cartoons when they were still good.

Hey, good western cartoons still existed after Looney tunes :P

But for Cerebella, she's part of a travelling troupe which is founded by a mafia-like crime family. They sometimes have the members perform jobs for them, and IIRC the current head of the family uses her as an enforcer of sorts since she's the only one who can use the vice-versa, which is the arm hat she wears. I believe she has feelings for her boss too.

Here's her profile on the site

And they got cancelled almost as fast as they came.

I meant her character design. It looks like every character has an individual theme(a big plus for fighting games). Peacock was obvious. The other two girls shown so far, not as obvious.

I'm actually good friends with someone who's in the art department there. It looks like an amazing game, and I've been a huge fan/follower of Alax Ahad (the guy who's the main artist/spritist for the game) for years. I'm a sucker for fighters, and this looks more than promising.
