No 40K thread yet? I'm surprised. Nay, shocked, shocked I say to discover there's gambling going on in this establishment...

I'm eagerly anticipating the imminent 5th Edition release, personally, but I was interested to know if anyone here plays and has a differing opinion on it. There are certainly plenty of people out there who seem to think that 40K 4th edition "only just" came out and that a new edition isn't needed. Anyone?

Warhammer Fantasy (including Age of Sigmar and WFRP) has its own thread here.

The Kryptonians had the tech and arrogant xenophobia, but they didn't have the rampant bloody hedonism. Also, the Kryptonians were too xenophobic to expand past Krypton to become an empire like the Eldar did. That's a big part of why the Kryptonians were more or less wiped out when Krypton exploded — for all their super tech, they lacked any means of mass space travel. Supes is only alive because his dad built an illegal spacecraft.

Ladies, gentlemen and those who think the gender binary is for squares, we have our very first Relic tank cannon from the Vigilus supplement.

Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.

Some info on GW financial results (I don't have a direct link)

GW last financial resulted in:

Trading has continued in line with expectations in the six months to December 2, with sales set to come in 13% higher at £124m.

Operating profit is set to nudge up from £38.8m to £41m.

In June, staff at Games Workshop were handed a £5m bonus following a year of solid sales and profits.

Games Workshop makes 75% of its revenues overseas, so has benefited from the Brexit-induced collapse in the pound.

Point cost changes from Chapter Approved are starting to leak.

Not sure if we're allowed to discuss or link to specifics, so I'll leave it at that until I get confirmation.

So, which Daemon Primarch is gonna come a-knocking at Vilnus? Fulgrim makes obvious sense, given the amount of Slaanesh-themed stuff being drip-fed, but some people are thinking... Angron?

Just, why?

Because Angery Red Primarch smashes. It's what he does.

I'd be more interested if a Loyalist Primarch showed up at Vigilus to have a scrap with him.

[up][up]Well Slaanesh is going to be the next focus in Age of Sigmar and there is going to be a special edition Noise Marine released for Christmas so I still think Fulgrim is more likely.

Dunno if anyone saw the new post on the 40K page's discussion page. If you didn't, someone asked about creating a separate page for Kill Team. I think it could be done, but I haven't played it since the 6th edition rules so I'll pretty much be useless for adding content.

[up]Hmmm, I can't seem to follow that page for some reason. Anyway, I have been working on a Kill Team page offline for a while but it hasn't been going very quickly due to health and work reasons (as well as my inability to concentrate on any one project for more than a week at a time). As such I just made a Sandbox (Warhammer 40000 Kill Team) for what I have at the moment (it is very bear bones at the moment though). I intend it to cover all the versions of the game, the two stand alone games as well as the Chapter Approver and expansion versions from previous editions but didn't know how note them so have been using the year of release rather than edition number.

Double Post for next week's pre-orders: Realms of Chaos: Wrath & Rapture

Wrath and Rapture is a new battlebox that pits the forces of Khorne against the hosts of Slaanesh in brutal interdimensional combat. Compatible with both Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar, it’s a must-have for all fans of the Ruinous Powers.

This boxed set features no fewer than four totally new kits, including a much anticipated (and magnificent) revamp of the Fiends of Slaanesh and Flesh Hounds of Khorne. Both these units have full, multipart sprues and are (for now) exclusive to Wrath and Rapture.

Leading both forces, meanwhile, are two new Daemonic character models – Karanak, the notorious Hound of Vengeance and hunter of wizards, as well as the Infernal Enrapturess (the one in the middle)– a new kind of Slaaneshi herald who bolsters summoning and shreds enemy units with sonic waves.

You’ll find rules for these models – and the rest of the stuff in the set – across the booklets included in the set. These detail the lore of the Realm of Chaos, giving hints as to the nature of this mysterious dimension and offering insights into the endless machinations of the Dark Gods.

These books are a real treasure trove and include some great tools for roleplayers and narrative fans, like a pair of naming tables for Daemons – including their multi-syllabic true names. You think this is just a Flesh Hound? This is Cankerspite, also known as Oehleeig’gaeaekw (or Olly, to his mates).

Wrath and Rapture is a cracking boxed set for Warhammer 40,000 players – as both armies inside are Daemons, you’ll be able to use them both in the same force! For Warhammer Age of Sigmar players, meanwhile, you’ll be able to slot both forces neatly into your Hosts of Slaanesh or Blades of Khorne army. You’ll save a considerable chunk of cash compared to getting the sets inside separately, too!

Those models are awesome.

Just got notification yesterday that my physical copy of Wrath And Glory shipped.

I've had the pdf for a while but haven't been able to actually play due to lack of a physical book.

I just noticed that Tank-Tread Mecha has recently been launched. Would a Lord of Skulls qualify?

[up]If it includes non-piloted machines then yes, I've been looking for that trope for years. The Ork Mega-Gargant and the Feral Ork Steam Gargant definitely would.

Would the old Epic Death Dealer and Lord of Battles also count though as they have wheels rather than tacks?

EDIT: I just read the description a bit more carefully and they would.

I have written an example to add to the Tank-Tread Mecha page:

  • Warhammer 40,000:
    • The Khornate Daemon Engine known as the Lord of Skulls is a large war engine consisting of a large, robotic body mounted on a pair of crushing tracks that is possessed by one of the most powerful of the Blood God's daemonic servants. Worshiped and adored by the followers of Khorne, these brutal war machines mount numerous, powerful weapons and are intended to annihilate the enemy force. The Lord of Skull's larger predecessor, the Lord of Battles, and the daemonic siege tower known as the Death Dealernote  also share this basic design, only with wheels instead of tracks.
    • Some Ork Gargants are fitted with massive track units instead of legs. The technologically limited Feral Orks lack the ability to create proper walking war machines and so their primitive Steam Gargants are moved by means of large, boiler-powered tracks. The mammoth and rare Mega Gargants used by other Ork factions meanwhile are so large and heavy that it would be impossible to build legs strong enough to move them.

[up] I'd strike one of those "large"s in the Lord of Skulls description but otherwise it's good. [tup]
