YMMV / Aftermath: Empire's End

Go To

  • Alas, Poor Scrappy: Surprisingly, people actually felt bad for Jar Jar when it turned out he was ousted from the Imperial senate, exiled from Otoh Gunga again and isolated by humans and Gungans alike, forced to live out his days as a clown at a refugee center (he is loved by children, yet adults hate him) and felt guilty for supporting Palpatine's emergency powers all the way back in Attack of the Clones, as it contributed to the transition of the Republic into the Empire.
  • Narm: There's a senator Grelka Sorka, whose pet is kidnapped by Black Sun to blackmail her into voting against sending the New Republic Starfleet to Jakku. A massive case of Skewed Priorities and Silver Age comic book villainy that's hard to take seriously.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: Jar Jar's tragic predicament in-universe is meant to evoke both this and pity for him at the same time.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • After Jom Barrell came across as one of the cooler and more interesting characters of the previous two books, here he is noticeably lacking in characterization and is unnecessarily killed in a fairly irritating way.
    • While the Ankle-Biter brigade plays a small but crucial role in rescuing/capturing Mas Amedda, Jak, one of their members from the first book is absent, while his participation would have been a great Call-Back to the trilogy's beginning given his presence in it's very first scene.
  • Unexpected Character: Given that Jar Jar had never been mentioned in any canon material after the reboot, his cameo here is fairly surprising.
