The books:

  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: The series is billed as being for kids in grades 5-to-8... and has characters who are not concerned about keeping their language clean for their audience.

The Paramount+ series:

  • Funny Moments:
    • Everett realising that the werewolf curse has given him xylophone abs, and he tells this to a disinterested Blake, who deadpans that she can take a progress picture if he wants.
    • Danny bluntly notes re: Blake's scars vanishing "you got pretty". Once she leaves, their father hurriedly says "she was always pretty".
  • Heartwarming Moments:
  • Narm Charm:
    • Rio Mangini's performance as Austin is almost ridiculously extreme, with every line delivered so intensely that it should be comical. But it just serves to make him work as the asshole one can't help but like.
    • The finale has a montage to a gloomy Darker and Edgier cover of..."Can't Fight the Moonlight" by LeAnn Rimes. Again, it should be ridiculous and was seemingly chosen simply because 'moonlight = werewolves', but it actually works.
  • Narrowed It Down To The Guy I Recognise: Given that Sarah Michelle Gellar was serving as an executive producer on the series and the media narrative touting this as her big comeback, it's safe to say that most viewers guessed she wouldn't just be on the show to play an Arson investigator whose role would presumably be done once they found the culprit. Sure enough, she's revealed as the werewolf mother.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Phoebe the mean girl gets killed off abruptly by the werewolf after she learns about Blake's damage and shows Hidden Depths by being friendlier to her peers. More could arguably have been done with her, possibly as a Secret-Keeper to the pack.
