YMMV / Turovero: The Celestial Tower

Go To

  • Crazy Is Cool: Sigurd and Ruby can fall into this. How else would one describe a knight that has the ability to stonecleaver and a sniper thief?
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Ruby is generally the most popular of the four heroes, possibly due to her status as the Plucky Comic Relief character in the party. Players also cite her particularly unhinged performance as the Dark One during her route, as well as her Start of Darkness during her previous life as Myra.
  • Esoteric Happy Ending: The four heroes have been Dead All Along, but, after finally accepting their deaths and overcoming most of their issues, they're able to ascend to Heaven. Except the Dark One, who will only be able to join them once they, too, have overcome their inner demons.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Depending on the route, the Dark One crossed it before the events of the story.
    • Sigurd/Ryan found out that his days were numbered because of his cancer. So he decided to poison his friends in order to spare them of “the pain of living”. His Never My Fault approach to it just makes it worse, especially when Myra calls him out for how hypocritical and selfish his reasons are, only to get killed for her trouble.
    • Ruby/Myra’s father commits suicide, which makes her spiral into outright paranoia, believing her friends are responsible for it. This culminates in a psychotic break in which she kills her friends based on imagined accusations.
    • Leilia/Melissa ended up burning herself and her friends alive because she was suicidal out of guilt for accidentally causing her family’s death. The reason she killed her friends? She was too scared of dying alone.
    • Edric/Peter shooting Ryan and Myra after accidentally killing Melissa. It's implied that Melissa could have survived if she got medical attention, but Peter lashing out at his friends prevented that.
  • Player Punch: After the Dark One is revealed and kills all the main characters in their previous lives.
  • That One Level: Sigurd's final trial in the last floor, which involves Stonecleaving pillars while slogging through health-eating Grimy Water at 50% movement speed, is cited to be one of the least enjoyable sections of the game by players. It's much easier if you equip a Solar Pendant on Sigurd beforehand.
  • The Woobie: The four heroes, once their past is revealed.
