Complete Monster: The "Marlboro Man" is the leader of the Cremation Crews, which massacre people infected with Dragonscale out of bigotry. When the Marlboro Man discovers Camp Wyndham, he has the person who brought him and his Cremation Crew there killed before his Crew begins slaughtering the residents; the Marlboro Man himself shoots Renée's Love Interest in front of her before trying to murder her.
Harsher in Hindsight: J. K. Rowling being martyred in-story for aiding and protecting a marginalized group of people doesn't play the same after her Real Life transphobic views came to light a few years later.
