YMMV / The Chronicles of Jaller

Go To

  • And the Fandom Rejoiced: The sudden and out of nowhere announcement of Jaller 3, which had long been in Development Hell for years.
  • Continuity Lockout: The third movie, being a Grand Finale for the series, understandably includes as many references to previous episodes and jokes as possible. Those who've never grown up with the series are very likely to be confused by the Call Backs. It doesn't help that one of the movie's plot points hinges on an unreleased film that the creators still considered canon.
  • Growing the Beard: The content noticeably becomes funnier and more absurd as the series progresses. It's probably helped by Stephen getting the hang of no longer doing in-camera editing and vastly improving the pacing, as well as adding some very amusing sound effects that were absent in earlier episodes.
  • Memetic Molester: Jaller. To be fair, it's a small leap.
  • Quirky Work: The humor of the series can get really random and unhinged. One episode in particular (the one that parodies a writers' strike) feels like it was made while Stephen was off some meds.
  • Tear Jerker: The final video, "Farewell From The Gang."
  • Values Dissonance: When the series was first being uploaded, it was still commonplace to use "retard" as a descriptor for someone being an idiot. Nowadays, the word is considered a very offensive slur for people suffering from mental disabilities and the later installments noticeably cut back on it. Makes it no less awkward to watch early episodes or movies where both Stephen and Harlan gleefully and repeatedly have Jaller be referred to as one.
