YMMV / The Blackcoat's Daughter

• Awesome Music: The soundtrack undeniably adds to the creepy and haunting atmosphere that pervades the film. Especially noteworthy are Incantation at the start of the opening credits, and His Majesty playing after Joan has murdered Bill and his wife.
• Complete Monster: The demon who haunts Katherine is a malicious spirit seeking to corrupt her into an agent of Satan. Tormenting Kat with visions of her parents dying at the demon's hands, the demon murders her parents and begins ordering her to kill everyone at her all-girls Catholic school. During an isolating winter break, the demon finally manages to possess Kat and use her to horribly butcher the school nurses and a fellow classmate, then attack a responding officer. Though the demon is exorcised from the girl soon after, its darkness drives Kat to kill more people in its name.
• Cry for the Devil: Kat is clearly lost beyond hope or redemption after all the horrible murders she's committed. But it's hard not to feel for her on some level, especially when she's having her Villainous Breakdown to end the movie. Knowing that her dark path had its seeds in her being a school outcast, but then jump started in earnest by the death of her parents in a car crash, adds additional layers.
• Les Yay: Kat toward Rose on two separate occasions: "You smell pretty". Becomes No Yay when we find out what she's actually getting at there...
