• Values Dissonance: The dialogue is loaded with racist and homophobic slurs, but since it's the Army in 1965, it's to be expected.
• Values Resonance: The story deals with intertwined themes of racism and homophobia, and the toll they take on individuals.

The film:

• Retroactive Recognition: Early roles for Matthew Modine and David Alan Grier.
• Spiritual Successor: Robert Altman very much seems to approach this like a Played for Drama counterpoint to M*A*S*H. As vets of the The Korean War with a Screw the War, We're Partying attitude, Rooney and Cokes could've easily have been M*A*S*H characters.
