YMMV / Star Trek S3 E6 "Spectre of the Gun"

• Artistic License – History: While it is brought up as a point that Billy Claiborne (the character that Chekov represented) actually survived the historical gunfight, no one seems to remember that Ike Clanton also survived. The McClaury brothers (represented by Spock and Scotty) were killed along with another Billy (in this case, Ike's brother who was not represented by any of the Enterprise crew involved). Ike brought up charges against the Earps for murder, which were dismissed by the standing judge. However, Ike did eventually get killed six years after surviving the gunfight; in this case he was shot dead by another lawman who caught him cattle rustling. Since the entire scenario was taken from Kirk's mind by the Melkotians, it is probable that Kirk, not being a historian, only had a Hollywood History version (such as the 1957 film even in today's pop culture) of real events to go on, although to his credit, remembering that Billy Claiborne survived the gunfight started other wheels turning.
• Like You Would Really Do It: While less sophisticated viewers of the time might have bought Chekov's death, modern-day watchers are far too savvy to believe it'll stick, even without the knowledge that Chekov goes on to appear in later episodes and the movies.
• Narm: The way the sheriff says "IKE!" sounds more like a cry of pain most of the time.
• Special Effects Failure: During the showdown, the Dramatic Thunder and accompanying lightning cause the trees to cast shadows on the painted backdrop. However, since this is after our heroes have realised they're in an artificial world, it kinda works!
• Values Resonance: Another episode where Kirk (and by extension Starfleet) is punished for intruding by getting made the (considered) villains, and White Male Lead acknowledges the violence of his ancestors.
