- Cargo Ship: Phil Collins and his Oscar.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Today, the word retarded has a much more controversial connotation, so the exchange with the students and Garrison at the beginning now has a different meaning.
- Strawman Has a Point: Despite his intentions, Phil Collins has a legitimate concern with the Lords of the Underworld since they appear to be exploiting a mentally handicapped child.
- Suspiciously Similar Song: The Lords of the Underworld song uses a riff very similar to that of Rush's "The Spirit of Radio".
- Unintentionally Sympathetic: Phil Collins gets vilified, treated like he's mentally handicapped, and sodomized with his Oscar for the crime of making music the townspeople don't like.
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: We're supposed to feel sorry for Skyler because of the way he gets treated in this episode. In his previous appearance, he pressured Shelley, a 12-year-old girl, into having sex with him and broke up with her when she wouldn't put out, something that Cartman thought was messed up.
