YMMV / So Help Me Todd

Go To

  • Diagnosed by the Audience:
    • Allison's husband Chuck is a very awkward conversationalist and has a lot of trouble reading social cues. This leads some fans to believe he is autistic.
    • Likewise, Lawrence has so much trouble with natural conversation that Todd disparagingly calls him a robot, and he gets very hung up on Insistent Terminology for even trivial things. These also line up with autistic behavior patterns.
    • Aunt Patty's Motor Mouth and scatterbrained behavior could easily be symptoms of ADHD, and her love of infodumping is once again a common trait of autistics.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Lyle, Todd’s Black and Nerdy rival at the office, is an amusing Adorkable foil to Todd.
  • Foe Yay Shipping: They're office rivals rather than mortal enemies, but Todd/Lyle is quite popular among the fandom.
  • The Scrappy:
    • Allison gets a lot of dislike for her behavior in the second half of season 1. She is very selfish and ungrateful towards Todd, even when he goes to bat for her despite being The Un-Favorite, and she inexplicably wants to cheat on her Nice Guy husband. When confronted on why she does these things, she admits she doesn't really know, making her seem whiny, childish, and poorly written. This continues in season 2, where, despite their roles being reversed and Todd generously helping her, she continues to be extremely selfish and ungrateful, even leveraging her willingness to help in his cases to extort him out of more money.
    • Beverly Crest was liked for her Trickster Mentor role to Margaret in season 1, but her behavior in season 2 has left many fans scratching their heads. It's revealed she not only made Maragaret named partner knowing that the firm was going under but immediately put her in charge of solving this unsolvable problem, and repeatedly gives Margaret difficult last-minute cases that stress her out further. Moreover, she's undermining Margaret's relationship with Susan. All of this makes it look like she's setting up Margaret to fail, Flanderizing her into a much less sympathetic figure, and raises the question of why she's sabotaging the person trying to save her own firm.
