YMMV / Slow Life in Another World (I Wish!)

Go To

  • Catharsis Factor: When the rest of the harem makes up excuses and leaves Wendy and Itsuki alone, so the two of them don't get interrupted, and Itsuki finally mans up, shares his concerns about the Questionable Consent aspect of her being his "special slave" and she lets him have it that she very much wants sex with him, they proceed to do the deed. The fanbase sighs collectively in relief that finally Itsuki and Wendy are going to be an official married couple per the rules of the world setting.
  • Never Live It Down: No matter how Itsuki reacts or what he does, the fanbase never forgives the incident where he goes to the adventurer's guild, at the demand of the head of the alchemist guild, and is attacked, having all his potions destroyed, to then wind up saddled with two slaves because of some Aggressive Negotiations by the very same head of the alchemist's guild, who now has the adventurer's guild over a barrel, and just lets the wolf-girl slave he's saddled with walk all over him. Even the narrative punishes him later when a letter said wolf-girl wrote brings in a third female adventurer who tries to kill him, and he's still so suicidal as a pacifist that rather than let the law deal with her, puts his own freedom at stake to bring the very same murder-crazed girl into his service. Face Palm.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • Itsuki is treated with disdain for being a Pinball Protagonist, Suicidal Pacifist, and dragging his workaholic mindset with him when he claims he wants a slow life. He's suffered under an oppressive culture most of his life and chapters 1-11 happened in less than a week. It's surprising he adapted that much.
    • Sorte is universally loathed by the fanbase, with good reason. She's just trying to protect her best friend's chastity, which is a noble goal, but the wolf-girl archetype she embodies was already old and tired by the time of Mayoi Neko Overrun!, over a decade before this story was published, and is abjectly loathed for the Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male core aspect of the character type. This completely destroys whatever rom-com dynamics the author had in mind for her.
  • Viewer Gender Confusion: Alchemist Guildmaster Reinrich in the manga. She has a masculine Gratuitous Germanic name (probably her surname), is always drawn wearing body-concealing robes, and her pronoun preference rarely comes up, but she's definitely meant to be a Cool Old Lady and not an old man.
