- Aluminum Christmas Trees: One of the Tropics' more outlandish promotional stunts has Jackie wrestling a bear after a game. ABA teams actually hosted man vs. bear wrestling matches on game days to lure in fans.
- Harsher in Hindsight: Seven weeks after the movie's wide release, Rocky, the bear who played Dewie, attacked and killed the cousin of one of the bear trainers who worked on the film.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Monix was gotten in a trade involving a washing machine. Years later, NBA player Kyle Korver revealed that in a way he (or rather, his draft rights) was traded for a copy machine.
- One-Scene Wonder: Jackie Earle Haley as the Dukes, the shirtless, goofy, perpetually stoned free-throw champ.
- Suspiciously Similar Song: The chords for "Love Me Sexy" have a familiar pattern to Earth, Wind, and Fire's song, "That's the Way of the World".
