• Ass Pull: As it turns out, Nick never died. He faked his death, and the entire plot was apparently part of his plan. Not only did this twist come right out of nowhere, but if you really stop to think about it, the explanations for how Nick survived just end up raising even more questions. Also, there’s a million ways his plan could’ve gone wrong and it only worked due to sheer luck. Rudy even lampshades it during a conversation he has with Nick after The Reveal.
• Retroactive Recognition: Sarek is Nick.
• Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Rudy. He impersonates his seemingly dead cellmate Nick, steals his romantic penpal from him (and has sex with her without feeling remorse and without her knowing that he’s not who he says he is), and when Ashley reveals that she’s been lying to Nick all along and never loved him, Rudy feels betrayed and we’re supposed to be siding with him…except that not only has he been lying to her too all along, but he also has the gall to call her out on what she did while never aknowledging that he’s guilty of doing the exact same thing to her. Sure, Ashley lied to Nick and pretended to be someone she wasn’t, but Rudy did the exact same thing to her, so he doesn’t have the moral high ground. If anything, he comes across as a massive hypocritical douche with a serious case of Moral Myopia.
