YMMV / Ninja Kamui

  • Awesome Art: The fight scenes are absolutely insane. A tornado of fluid action and blood with no mid-fight expositing to slow things down.
  • Awesome Music: "VENGEANCE" by coldrain has been warmly received as a departure from the usual J-pop style openings that have been nigh-omnipresent in anime openings.
  • Fridge Brilliance: The all-CGI Gosuku suits have been decried for detracting from the intense, inventive and creative 2D fight scenes the anime was known for before their introduction, coming off as clunkier and less fluid in motion. This is completely intentional, as a reflection of both the ninja clan's schism between the old traditional ways and the new ways Yamajii seeks to implement, even as it distances them further from the traditional image and methods of a ninja, and the differences in the older 2D anime industry vs newer shows that use CGI tracing for easier animation and better budgeting. This is best demonstrated in episode 10, with fluid hand-to-hand fighting demonstrated by Joe and Zai in his Flashback, contrasted against their one-on-one Gosuku suit duel in the present, which is less rapid and slower overall, culminating in both of them reverting back to 2D animation and the traditional methods of the Ninja when their suits breaks apart at the episode's end and leave them both with just their bodies to fight in.
  • Narm: Higan's fake name is Joe Logan, which can make the Japanese version a lot harder to take seriously for many Western viewers due to the way native Japanese speakers handle L sounds, making it so several characters audibly refer to him as Joe Rogan.
